I should have work with an engerneer, you are right but i was to worried about him saying NO to an idea, where as if he see's what im doing I hope i can talk him around. Also i wasnt sure how i was going to do things either, i just made it up as i went along and worked around problems i ran into. Anything i have done can be undone at this stage so i can change it to suit what he wants. I realised cant tub the rear with out changing my back seat which defeats the whole point to how i have done the rear end. Oh well.[8~2] I have started to make up my long tube headers for the new motor. It has only taken me 2 hours to get to this point. I now have to mount up the gear box and put it all into a car to make sure everything is running in the right position. Im running 1 3/4 primarys around 32 inches long, then into a 2 3/4 colector, 3 inches long, then into a 2 1/2 free flowing twin system. That is tuned for around 4800/5000rpm for memory. All the primarys will not be tuned to exactly the same length but they will be close. I dont have the money to pay some one else to do it so i am learing patience and how to do everything myself. It will be one of a kind as i will never do it again[%][%] Well i have got the passenger side header all tacked together. Very snug fit. It will have to be put in with the motor and taken off to get the starter motor on.[xo][xo] I have to fit the new power steening rack to the crossmember and hook it all up with the steering wheel before i can do the drivers side one. I am very happy with how it came up.[:x)][:x)] Download Attachment: headers20net.jpg87.01 KB Download Attachment: headers24net.jpg83.08 KB Download Attachment: headers27net.jpg84.64 KB Download Attachment: headers28net.JPG86.03 KB Download Attachment: headers33net.JPG93.26 KB

Oh man.. that's hard work right there! Keep at it man!
I'm very interested to find out how your reverse mount engine crossmember is going to work out. How will the tie rod ends mount to the front wheels?? as the normal mounting point is at the front and now the rack will be at the rear. This would be handy for Jap conversions as most of them have front sumps. Would love to know details and pic's when you've got the rack to work.

Im fitting up the rack at the moment, Just having to redesign my headers slightly to allow a little more room between the headers and the steering rack boot. I am going to heat wrap them and maybe put a stainless steel guard between them all so if needed. I am just setting up the rack height and length to get good steering geomitry(i hope). It is working out well but i have no spare room. If the starter motor or anything was 10mm wider then i would not be posible to fit it all in. As it is now i am having to design everything to work in together or it just wont fit. The drivers side header should be slightly easier as only one primary pipe will have to be squeased around to fit past the steering column. JDS. I am planning to just swap the left and right strut around (leaving the lower control arm the same) which will just make the brake caliper at the front of the strut and the steering arm at the rear. The brake calipers and mounts are not designed any stronger for stresses on them, one way or the other so there should be no problem. I have had a look around and my falcon rears are on the front of the axel. the only problem i can see is the cooling of the brakes may not be quite as good but i dont see that as a real issue. I dont think i is worth the hassel except that i was going power steering and wanted the extra sump capacity i can get having it at the front. I couldnt get the motor back far enought to not change the sump anyway.

Well i have had to totaly remake the entire headers, to gain more room around the steering rack and so i can fit my spark plug lead on[:I][:I][%]. I now have about 20mm between the steering boot and header & about 5mm around the plug lead. I will be heat wraping or ciramic coating them so im hoping there shouldnt be to much heat. Here are a couple of pics. Download Attachment: IMGP9360.JPG106.3 KB Download Attachment: IMGP9373.JPG106.57 KB

Thanks for the reply. Now for another question. How do you plan to link up the steering column to the rack? Sorry for the stupid questions, but this is interesting and I'm trying to gather ideas. Wouldn't the steering box be facing the wrong way?

shaun. bought 12 x 90 degree bends, colector and flange plate from an exaust place. about $200 for what i have done. Now i have to go and spend another $200 for the other side.[8~2]I have to hurry up and get it done so i can start assembling the motor.[:x)][:x)] jds.. If you do this mod you can NOT use the orignal steering rack or it would go the wrong way. The rack i have is made to mount to the rear of the crossmember(from a front wheel drive car). I have to put a bearing on the floor to support the steering column and conect it to the uni on the steering rack. all lines up fairly good. Download Attachment: IMGP9365.JPG106.4 KB

Another 10 bends and 10 hours and now i have the drivers side headers tacked together. . They look better than the other side to. Im learing . Just have to find out the length they need to be now and finish off welding them up, and fit the colectors. It is comming along awesomely.[:p][:p][:p] Download Attachment: IMGP9380.JPG106.34 KB Download Attachment: IMGP9379.JPG104.25 KB Download Attachment: IMGP9377.JPG103.92 KB
