I have Also raised the back wheel arches 45mm and getting four link rear fitted in. Looks Awesome sitting nice and low. I have 235-40-17 tyres on it now also, instead of 45 profile.

Well I drove it out of the garage today for the first time with the new rear end.[:x)] (no rear springs or shocks thou) Im very happy with my efforts so far. I have to make the coil over turrets and the inner guards and the rear end is complete.
Then onto the front end with the new motor, gear box and powersteering. Here are some pics for any one thats interested.

Im a real fan of your car!! Looks absoloutly great!! Just wondering, what sort of figures hav u spent to get it this far, because i wouldnt mind using the same engine as u in my 2dr. I want to make it a track car, going to do all the body work and suspension first but then i didnt know what sort of engine to use, but i knu i wanted somethin with a bit of torque for hillclimbs etc. Going to use something similar in the rear but i'm thinkin hilux diff with a 5link, watts linkage etc, then a coilover conversion on the front with 300mm rotors and ap racing 4pots, then 270mm rotors with wilwood 4pots on the rear. Fully seam welded and welded in 4130cr-mo full cage. At the moment just what i want to do to the car without the engine i rekon im lookin at the better half of 10grand..... Just interested in what youve spent because your car is at the stage i would love mine to be......

Well I have done everything my self so that has kept the cost down a lot. Fot the finish i expect to spend about $20,000 in total. If you were to get someone else to do this stuff for you then expect to double that figure. the rear end has been quite cheap, rear shocks &springs from the states. $250pr $600 for the diff including getting the axels respllined. so the back end has prob cost some where around $1000. All the guard pannels i got off other shells i have had laying around. $1200 for the front breaks, $400 for the supra 5 speed, $1500 for the motor and another $1500 for extra bits from the states(gasket sets, head studs ect) So after buying the car it has cost me about 5k so far. Add about another $1500-$2000 for intercooler, radiator, electric watter pump ect I should be detting close to done, Oh and a but load of my time. I would look at the v6 cosworth motor as an option also as it may be lighter and supercharge that??? maybe.

Yeah the cossie v6 would be nice but im not loaded, thats why i was interested in how much you paid for the 3.8 from the Thunderbird cuz it seems like a good motor to get my car runnin how i want it to. I will be doing all the work myself aswell, shell is going to stay standard but as i said i will weld in a cage and seam weld the chassis. Rear end has turned out cheap for you i think i will be looking at around 2000 with a shortened hilux diff and 5link. But if the 3.8 only cost you 1500 thats got me REALLY interested!! My only other option atm is turboing the pinto(already have a t04, 42mm wastegate n intercooler etc) but i'm not sure of that. Im only really looking to spend around 10g to get my car on the track since all the work will be done by me to keep costs down so i can spend more on performance rather than labour. I dont want the best escort in the country, i just want a good reliable car i can have lots of fun in!!
Cheers

I have seen similar motors to mine for sale on the net for between $400US and $800US complete with wireing loom ect. but then you have to get it shipped and be prepaired to spend an extra $2000 in bits to rebuild it and to get it all going. So it is not that cheap realy, but very reliable Hp as it is limited at about 5500rpm and devalops bucket loads of torque by 2000rpm.
When you Have the cash and get up to it let me know and i am happy to help out where i can. (info, contacts ect) I just ordered $1100 in parts today so i have everything to get my motor running. I cant wait to get it in the car.

For thoes that have gone down the engeneer path, how did you go about cutting the front radiator support pannel and front splash pannel to fit larger radiator and intercooler?? can you do it if you add other extra bracing??

I can leave the bottom boxed in section but what to remove the radiator suports pannel out to the chassis width and cut the front to fit the inter cooler like pictured above. The RS nose cone will hide the intercooler there so you wont even be able to see it unless you realy look[:p]

Well all the bit for my SC v6 are here so i have started to pull it down, git it the once over and reassemble it.
While i was going i done some weighing.

2L pinto = 130kg (including flywheel)
V6 = 145kg/160kg including blower (no flywheel, but i will be going alloy)

Escort 4 speed and bellhousing = 35kg
supra w57 and bellhousing = 40kg

escort diff, complete = 55kg
falcon diff, complete = 75kg

escort leaf spring packs = 30kg
coilovers and linkages = aprox 15kg

So i am expecting about 50-60kg heavier then standard. much better than i had expected, (80-100kgs)

i havent really seen the engine bay shots but would it be easier to have the pipes of the cooler up the top? that way you wouldnt have to chop much away from the shell???

or is that not possible??

Because it is an RS (the green shell is for experamenting with)the inlet/outlet of the intercooler would come out right at the lights leaving no where to go. I could get a custom intercooler made with the outlets facing back but i want the radiator to be full chassis width. Nice thought thou.
