You must have a good old school panel beater. My father is as old school as you get. He used to straighten guards on an anvil, ie heat and shrink and then metal file with lead. In the 60's and 70's lead was fazed out in favor of fibre filler(Bog). The metal used for cars of that era were too thin to heat and shrink. You would be working on a mounted guard and it would warp in another area due to over heating. It was easier to apply a coat of bog and then banana file it down. These days the metal content of modern cars is minimal,Thus the era of remove and replace was born. I would be very suprised if your panel beater doesnt use at least a kilo tin of bog for covering welds and minor ripples in what appears a very straight body. If he doesnt please let me know I will sack my old man.[:u]

cant wait to see the rest of it Peter, very inspiring.
Interested in the sunroof hole disappearing....weighing up if i want to leave mine or get rid of it, saw the section on here from removing the roof and replacing the roof as a whole to get rid of it, but think i read that you didn't go down that path...

Hi Peter. Between you and Fordsy I'm motivated to get stuck into a Mk1 I've had lying about for a number of years. Could you please advise the name of the industrial strength paint stripper and the phosphoric acid you've used on your project.

Thanks Peter. I've used the Septone product before and have been very happy with the results.

Great thread!
I must admit I was a little optomistic that you could insert the section into the roof and not have it distort.....
I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome!
