Early Mark 1 roller tops - what model?

Hey guys,

I'm after some roller strut tops to fit to early MK1, (large dia???)

In a perfect world I would go and buy a new pair @ around $300 from one of the suppliers, however if my memory serves me correct, those from a sigma or bluebird will fit with very little mods?

A good second hand pair from the wreckers is more on par with what I want top spend....[;^)]

Has anyone gone done this route or can advise which model to look out for at the wreckers??

I'm not too keen on searching for too long in this heat.[8~2]

Thanks,

Shaun.

If I'm not mistaken, the Sigma tops were for small PCD (late MK2).

Had the arvo off so went to the wreckers..

Yes, sigma are for the small PCD so are a no go.

Bluebird, I think series 3 it was, would also fit with some work.

However the Subaru units look the most promising, first I found a L series and then there was a more modern Liberty that should fit the bill nicely.

There where also several '2' bolt options that could work but I also want it looking somewhat factory.

Any other suggestions before I go down the subaru path.

I did a post on this some years back some of it could be in my project thread. But main hole needs to be enlarged with the 2 stud holes elongated. I elongated toward engine on both sides in an attempt to gain a small amount of camber.

You'll then need to to do some work to get shock to fit in bearing nicely.

I had a search on here but couldn't find anything. a wider search, google, brought up some of the old 'Osella' works forums..

Was like a trip down memory lane....

The Works Escorts ran Mk2 Cortina GT items (from memory, I know they were from Mk2 Cortinas), these fit without modification to the strut top for a Mk1. However, they are obviously now hard to find, and being reproduced in the UK with a spherical bearing.

    Cheers

Thanks Justin, however these are even more expensive than the spherical setup....[8~2]

I'll head back to the wreckers this weekend and grab the the suby ones. The only thing I forgot to check was the bearing ID.
