yeah ive considered a few times changing the grill and doing a different setup, involving chrome mesh still, just maybe over the vents, around each vent individually, or even the way it is now, but including around the head lights? owell the future awaits many decisions.

well the brake kit is on, not much of a difference at all for normal driving but definately better than stock brakes in the harsher situations. and doesnt let dust and water/grease/oil slip all over the brake pad! (as much, i guess)

oil leak from sandwich plate (which was always present, used to be a 5c coin overnight, has now turned into a leak thats just ridiculous, SO

now the gearbox is out. F*CK thats a **NT of a job! was worried i was bending the release springs on the clutch, but after removal visual inspection said t'is all ok!

didn't get to see where the leak was coming from though. got to dark [8~2]

ive lost count of how many times ive taken the engine/gearbox out.

found something wrong! the clutch fork, that has a little bolt and a spacer that screws into the alloy housing, was not only loose, had actually fallen out!

which explains the occasional rattle when i press the clutch pedal.

hmm, just thought i would keep this topic up to date.

Yeah I know what you mean about the g/box being a pr!ck to get out. You will enjoy getting it back in even more (sarcasm). I had enough trouble getting everything lined up with the motor out of the car let alone in the car. I was too lazy to buy a clutch aligning tool so that doesn't help I guess hahaha.

i chopped off the input shaft of my spare cortina box [%]

makes alignment easy! even though i did manage to align the clutch in my mates gemini when his motor was out, using a screw driver and my eyes [:o)] nailed it first go [:x)]

i did finish the day today with the gearbox in, but only on 2 bolts and rear supported buy a transmission jack (the cars on my hoist)

dropped the crossmember with a long bolt about 3 inches on the d/s

and combine being impatient, with lack of proper bolts, i ended up removing BOTH bolts on the p/s and supporting that with a big ass stand, and raising the hoist again, about 3 inches.

put a small screw jack on the tip of the extractors to the floor,to tilt the engine, and the rest is just fiddley ass sh*t!

but yeah, i siliconed the gaskets on the gearbox, including the top cover, replaced the rear main, and just for good measure siliconed the edge of the rear sump gasket.

ill probably have it driving late 2moro afternoon after work, leave it on the driveway overnight and see if theres any drips!

good to know that ive got rego now, its alot less stressing, because even if it leaks a smaller amount its ok. no roady to get through.

i was lucky it didn't leak when i got the roady done, then it started dripping and got worse and worse.

ive always thought that escort gearboxes are easy to remove/replace once you drop the back of the motor down a bit. if you dont do that its a night mare with the gearbox mounts inside the tunnel hitting.

well when i had it as a sh*tter ages ago, with stock carby and no engine fan (heaps of engine bay room)

and access to long as bolts, i dropped the crossmember by a good 6/7 inches, which let me tilt the motor like all hell, which made it pretty easy, or alot easier anyway.

ive gotten it all back together now.

and the engine started suprisingly easy!

god the power the twins gave me is so much fun. yet to try it on open roads though, in a small driveway everything feels faster.

really need to give it a wash.

hopefully picking up the 2&1/4 inch sports system this weekend.

forgot to mention how amazed i was when i took the top cover off the gearbox, i was amazed!

its considerd, "a poo pooty old single rail 4 speed" yet the design is so complex, i sat there playing with the shifter and watching what happens for a good 10 minutes haha.
