well wont need to be writing anything down, they told me i have to bring the car, for an inspection. now they don't have pits so don't really know if i should be a little on edge or not?
how does vicroads work? if theres an error for a number can it just "not work" and have rego denied? i mean the engine is an engine. how big a deal could it be?

Pretty big. Engine and chassis numbers are not something they take lightly. I'd make sure you know the exact numbers when you take it in. Get underneath and clean up where the numbers are printed so they can be easily read.

You always have to take the car when registering a vehicle in victoria but it is only for verification purposes. they come out and physically check the chassis and engine number to make sure they match what you have written down on the paperwork.
There are no "pits" and rarely anyone working in a registration office who knows much.
what is the engine number you have? it should more than likely begin with CK or CG

the top one is the engine number. i'd be inclined to clean it up with a wire brush or something. you don't want to give vic roads any excuse to not let it pass on the day plus the less time they are out looking at it the better incase they pick something stupid as they do.

It'll be a U C = UK G = Broadmeadows - (Passenger) 76 = Cortina GL Wagon 4-Cyl (XL Wagon Bucket Seats) U = 1978 M = July 94473R = build number

Sterling,
Even if it is the correct engine number, there is a good chance that it wont be on there records if it has been out of a car for a while.
