scored the bargain of the century! managed to snag a silvertop zetec from a wagon with a stuffed trans for NZD$250! the local wreckers said they could sell me one for over a grand! my brother and i stripped all the junk off it the other night so tomorrows project is to make up some engine mounts so i can sit it in place and start working out how things will fit. for the moment i think the sump will get replaced with some plastic rubbish bags and alot of duct tape until i decide how to modify the current one. have been sidetracked a little bit by dads mustang race-car and i'm only home from uni for 2 weeks, should be able to get something done though.

finished my plastic bag sump this afternoon and sat the engine down about where it will finish up. not alot of room front to back but side to side there is more than i had anticipated which is good. i was going to use the original anglia radiator but it is too thick and the hoses are in the wrong place, so i am thinking now that i will use a 1.8 pulsar radiator i have lying around from a car i wrecked a while ago.

Looking good with progress.. I sat my 1600 Fiesta Duratec in my Anglia with the factory thermo housing etc and had 10mm spare at the back, am going to 'notch' the bulkhead back 2inch when i get back into it...The Dat1600 i'm doing for a mate is taking time(rust repairs galore)!!

I'm thinking that i am going to re-route the rear water outlet down the inlet side of the engine rather than down the exhaust as it is usually done, it looks like it will fit the radiator i have better as it puts the inlet and outlet on opposite corners. Means i don't have to run a rubber pipe from one side of the bay to the other, really don't have room to do that.

Took a few pictures before i left for uni again. The engine is mounted on the original anglia gearbox to get the position right, fits perfect. The mounts are only the beginnings so that the car could be rolled again, didn't want to leave it in dads shed immobile. The mounts will get some gussets welded into them and have some trimming and shaping done as well. The pulsar radiator is a perfect fit. next time home i will finish the mounts, cut the hole in the floor for the type 9 and mount that up.

If you use the Retro Ford water rail you will have to set the bulkhead back a little bit under the bulkhead lip. I have just done this. Fitted like a glove until I put the rail on and then it banged on the bulkhead. All sorted now.

I had planned on making my own water rail, similar to Andrews.
I was talking to my local mechanic/dyno tuner today and we put some figures into his computer program for roughly what length my headers need to be. I would post it on here for reference but its written on my pad down in the shed [V]
tomorrow afternoon i'm going to draw up the flange on autocad so i can have it profile cut, i'm also going to measure up and design the headers so i can work out how much tube and bends i need to put them together.
might fit up the doors if i get time and do some more panel work to try and finish the majority of the welding.

alrighty, been a while since i've posted. last time i was home i managed to get a wee bit done. Bought some priming gear, filler, 2 pot primer, thinners etc. but never got a chance to use it, weather wasn't good enough. I did manage to make a start on my headers though. started off with a pile of bends and tube and managed to tack together the primary tubes, i'll fully weld them next time and then do the secondary's. I've gone for a 4-2-1 set up. Im pretty proud of them since i've never done any fitting with tube or anything before, they came out mint and werent too hard to make them fit. I've got a megajolt computer and a set of R1 carbs on their way from the states too, i'll be pushing to get the whole project finished over the summer holidays, i can see alot of late nights happening but hopefully i'll be able to get it done.

forgot, i also got the bottom cut off the sump ready to start being welded up. i just need to alter it a little further to make the starter motor fit.

haven't seen the bill yet...
the flange was free coz i got it cut out where i used to work.
the bends i think are about NZD$25 each, and a similar price for the cowbells. i'll let ya know how much it cost once i see the bill.
marty how did you do the fuel regulation for the R1 carbs on your mex? did you get a regulator or use a 3psi pump?
dad emailed me this morning and he says he has just finished soldering together my megajolt kit, bit disappointed though, the voltage regulator was missing from the kit. he says he has found an equivalent one at richard smith though for only $2 so shouldn't be a problem. My R1 carbs are with dad out on the drilling rig too, apparently they look tops. can't wait to get it all fitted up and running!!

Hi, i used a FilterKing regulator from Burtons, 80odd buks it has a built in filter under the regulator and looks old fashioned to match the car, the pump is a 4-7 Facet. I used a fuel pressure gauge to set the pressure at 2.5psi for now. Bike carbs only need gravity to feed them which is why the low psi.

those carbs must rely on more than gravity?
3psi=20684Pa
Density of petrol~737kg/m3
acceleration of gravity=9.81m/s2
737 x 9.81 x height = 20684Pa
therefore height difference ~ 2.9metres!!
is anyone able to check that calculation i've done? any fluid mechanics buffs out there? need to know if i did that wrong haha i have an exam on it next week!
to get 3psi out of gravity you would need to hold the tank at arms length standing above the carbs haha
i was thinking that instead of running a pressure regulator you could simply put a surge tank above the bulk head and run a return line from there back to the main petrol tank. then your carbs are gravity fed from the surge tank.
