Looking good Shaun. Does front need 15"s minimum for that brake setup? The rear stance and wheels remind me of IMBOSS a little back in the day. Rhys

Thanks Guys. Rhys, yep, needs 15's to clear the rotors. Was always a fan of IMB05S, can you tell? Sebstar82 used FD RX7 inserts. Not the most ideal ones to use. needed a bit of modding however they were free. They are different models that drop stright in. I used 2 lt struts as I didnlt want to mod my genuine twink ones. Ford_Escort the rotors are from a mondeo.

Tonight I got under the back of the car to mock up the Watts linkage and check where the axle brackets will sit. Needed to do this for measuremnts as the cortina axle tapers unlike the escort which has straight tubes. Heres how it looks, Thanks to Wozzah, Anyway, whiles I was under there I started lookind at the inner tubs. They sit 40mm out from the chasis rails, which as I see it, is 40mm too far..... Quick measure of the back seat and it looks like it will squeeze in there... so out with the drill and a little while later, I had 2 of these out. Will move them inwards and reweld directly to the rails, then extend the outers straight to the guard. Few little filler pieces, hopefully a strightforward job. That should do to maximize tyres size on the 8.5 rims currently under there. Still need to do the outer N/S passenger guard. Will post some photos as I go. Hope to have it looking factory when viewed from the boot. Might be temped to respray the lot now... just need to decide if I fit the Mexico stripe kit I have. Shaun

Few little updates, Finished the rear tubs. I'm certainly not the worlds greatest welder and don't have the patience for panel beating but happy with the result. Gained space to the chassis rails and removed the inners. Can now fit decent rubber on the rims. Pics.. Scary cutting this much out as I had never done it before... Boot will need to tidy up the seam sealer when I paint the boot. I ran out of time. How it looks now, paint is not finished, decided I will give the whole car a quick blow over as I am going to change the interior from burgundy to white. Can still fit the rear seats in. Dragged out the old interior and will use it to suit the new retro look of the car. Never realised I had a 4 door rear seat....lol New larger diameter deep dish steering wheel so I can actually read the twincam gauges after 15yrs of not doing so. Covered the floor in some sound/heat proof Still need to pain interior/exterior Have some more pics of the motor. Will upload when I get a chance. Shaun

Little bit more work done. Have spent my spare time in the last few days under the car tack welding on my back. (Not exactly fun, have made the decision I will definately be getting a hoist when I get a new place.) Anyway, now have an exhaust tunnel running along the transmission hump and have completed the 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust as far as the diff. Not the prettiest exhuast but it is all tucked up high above the chassis rails. Just waiting on some diff mounts for the watts and then the car will be back on the ground for good. Shaun

Well things have taken a bit of a back seat due to the birth of our daughter, however recently got back to the escort. On leave now for 4 weeks so hopefully be able to finalise a few things and get the engine in and running. Will get some pics up soon, axles machined for rear discs, exhaust now completed, interior all changed over, o2 sensor plumbed in, pedal box almost completed, watts linkage in, boot floor modified, next i need to redo the gearbox mount.

Here are a few pics, having a bit of trouble uploading as I am doing it from a tablet and the cut and paste option seems to have a mind of its own. The only pic I seem to have from the exhaust tunnel before I head and sound proofed the floor. In the true sense of the budget build theme and use what is available, I used a chromed 5 inch truck stack.... 3 Inch dump pipe with 02 sensor mount getting painted up. I will cover this section in heat wrap to try and keep some of the engine bay temps under control. Fitted up to the business end. There is an engine under all the pipe work. A shot from the rear of the 3 inch chrome dump and muffler. As I'm only running 1 muffler I wanted it as close to the rear as possible.

Shot from behind showing watts linkage. Exhaust is fitted up, all above the rails. Still need to redo the gearbox mount and might yet switch to 2 x small diameter pipes as I cross under the gearbox. From the side. You can just make out the exhaust on the far side. Again tucked up nice and high. Will get some more pics up when the car is next up on stands. Noticed I still have blocks in! Need to get on to some lowered springs. Is there a kings spring that is 1.5 inches lower? Shaun

Not for MK1's unfortunately. Some use the wider MK2 leafs and machine down the bushes to fit. Personally, I would get a set made to spec from a spring shop. It will cost about the same as new Kings anyway

Great job on getting the exhaust up out of the way. I was surrounded by Mazda drag cars in the workshop where my car was being dyno'd last week. Couldn't believe they all had 3" exhausts hanging way down below the rear axles.
Tar's for getting there. Dirt's for racing!
