Just Awesome, well done Bill.

Did it pass engineer certification with the Haltech?? I thought you had to have original ECU fitted or you'd have to go through EPA tests ect. to pass..., = expensive excercise.

Only need to meet current day emissions on kit cars/clubmans. Thats why when you get on thier forums they are madly trying to reverse engineer all the factory parts to make them work in thier cars. Escort year of manufacture applies in regard to emissions regardless of what engine you put in it.

Hmm.. I always thought emissions must comply with the build date of the motor you put in, and not the vehicle. For example, your car must have factory emission control divices that were affixed to the engine, ECU and catalytic converter included. Well, here in VIC anyways.

Is this not the case in NSW Bill? Do you have to run a catalytic converter?

I think the same in QLD. Motor must comply with its build date of the car it came out of.

Yes I must run a catalytic converter and I will. I wasn't thinking about exhaust emmissions, but this is something you should do if your running unleaded isn't it.

So what what does the factory system do that is different to my setup. I am plumbing crank case, fuel fumes and cam cover vent to the inlet manifold.

Engineer states that in NSW anyway that the car must meet ADR42 emmissions which is stamped on the escort plate Which is mainly charcoal canister connected to manifold.

Yes If your running unleaded you must run a cat. or face a fine of a lot of money, something like 15k in QLD. Plus its better for us humans ,and without it the performance gain personally i think not that great.

Not really. Plenty of cars on the road running unleaded without a cat.

Factory ECU is part of the emission control system (especially at cold start) and must be fitted if engine being fitted is post 1988 build. This is what I have been told by an VASS Engineer and the EPA.

ADR42 is not stamped on a MK1/2 Escort compliance plate. And it's not really a emission related ADR.

ADR42 = General Safety Requirements.
Specifies a wide variety of general design and construction requirements to ensure safe operation of the vehicle, e.g. mudguards, windows, bonnet latches, engine and transmission controls, ect.

I think you mean ADR 27A (late MK2's), and if what you said before "Escort year of manufacture applies in regard to emissions regardless of what engine you put in it.", then you wouldn't need to run a catalytic conveter as Escort year of manufacture does not require a catalytic converter.

Anyway, I only asked as you said you passed engineer certification with the Haltech and I wanted to know as I would like to do the same, but been told not possible. Well here in VIC anyway. Did your engineer pass the ECU and emission control system using the "year of manufacture of vehicle" statement Bill? You NSW guys are very lucky if this is the case.

So what standard factory cars are running unleaded without cats?

The 1995 RN85 Hilux that I sold 6 months ago was unleaded with no cat as standard from factory.

JDS

Yeah 27a I was trying to remember the number instead of checking.
Yes the car has been passed with the haltech based on the year of manufacturer. This is they way I thought it worked but you learn something new everyday. This engineer is NSW, VIC and ACT certified.

So progress so far.
Had to redo the sump gasket again it leaked just by cranking the engine. This is now fixed.
Rebuilding my longest tailshaft.
Need another rear peugeuot caliper bleed nipple cross threaded.
Car is booked into the Exhaust shop on Friday.
Will hopefully start it on the 21st July. I will record this and put it on youtube.
And the last piece of the puzzle arrived tonight
