Thanks Phil

I can throw the last pwm down that tubing you see in the photo which goes to the CAS, easy. I assume you plug it into D what happens with P and how do I connect my Alt dash light.

Bill, with an ecu driven alternator you typically have 3 pins in the plug, one is ecu input, one is dash light input, one is battery reference. You will also have the big B+ terminal for the battery charge cable.

This is definetly an ECU driven Alternator but it doesn't have three pins just P & D. I wish it had L. Got to love Mazda/Ford for this one.

Matt when you start putting modern engines into cars you dive right into electronic hell. There are three areas in a car you must be proficient in Body/Paint, Mechanical and Electrics.

Alternators come with marked connectors
B common accross all Output
Older Alts
S Monitor Charge
L Charge Warning Lamp
IG Ignition Input
New Alts
P Phase
D Drive or positive

Mazda Wiring diagem 19.5 for 24hrs access.

Can you get a wiring diagram? That will solve the mystery

Its hard to say Bill. I have just finished playing with an 04 STI which lost its ecu duty output to the alternator...pity its not a Subi alternator! I could sort you well and truly.

Just my 2 cents worth....
The standard Zetec alternator I am using with my Zetec conversion also is one of these Alternator that are controlled by the ECU. The way we got around it was an after market regulator that was an exact replacement that uses the standard requirements for charging. The other alternate was to remove the regulator and modify it in a way to allow us to charge ( But the auto elecy never really got into how, cause it was a pain )

g'day Bill.

The car is coming together great. Looking fantastic. Keep up the good work.

Just wondering what strut tops you're using there?

Unfortunately the big shed is full of house building materials and there is no room for cars

The book was called OEX by Ashdown Ingram . An Auto electrician should have it. If you remove your regulator hopefully you can match up the one thats in the catalogue.

Very nice install, I plan to do the same as I have been using Duratec's in Caterham 7's for 3 years now and have just bought a MK1 for conversion.
Where did you get the exhaust headers and radiator from and what sort of price are they?

You will have to speak with Geoff at Eurospeed re the exhaust manifold.

The radiator is a 2 core 4age off ebay from Just Alloy Raidiators Mascot Sydney, it has cost me 576.00 so far with another mod needed on the bottom outlet point to make it go out at 45 degrees to fit the coolflex hoses I have purchased. Actually a 45 degree bottom outlet towards the inner guard would help with all duratec installs.

A 4age radiator needs the bottom outlet moved from left to right and the mounting brackets flip around so the 40mm flange is on the engine side and the 20mm flange is facing away from teh engine.

Another tip which I learen't this weekend. It will help to modify you heater matrix outlet's. take 10mm off the ends and weld in 45 degree pipes going towards the drivers side inner guard. They are to close too this exhuast as they are.
