Ch 3 of Vizards "How to modify Ford SOHC" has good technical writeup on all aspects of valve and rocker geometry, ch 9 of the Des Hammill "How to Power Tune Ford SOHC & DOHC" book has more of a laymans approach with some detail on rocker geometry and a handy set of templates for ensuring correct set up. Take a look at these sample extracts to see what I am talking about;

Definately recommend purchasing both of these books along with a genuine Ford Service manual, the have been a handy reference over the years.

Cheers

Who reground the cam and are the followers new or refaced? What is the profile? When you check the clearance are you working on a slight drag or a go-no go proceedure?

On a typical solid lifter V8 you can vary the clearance by about 6 thou looser and 4 thou tighter. On a ohc motor they haven't got the same clearance ramps to play with. In reality you would hardly notice any change in the valve clearance from a performance perspective unless the combination was perfectly optimised. You probably have about +-2 thou to play with which will be attributed to "your" feel with the gauges. Some cam profiles can be a little noisier, Comp cam extreme series hydaulics are very touchy to preload and can be tappy. Cams with aggresive profiles can be noisier because they tend to compromise the clearance ramps for higher lift rates.
