Hi Kizza,

We are moving to Dublin. The weather is a worry but I'm sure I will survive!!

Thanks for the comments Owen - I can't wait to see it finished myself! As you would know, the reassembly is the enjoyable part.

My bonnet brackets are finished. Happy with how they came up - not exactly original looking but they were made so that the holes I drill in the body will be in the correct place should I ever find some original brackets in the future.

I also caught up with a mate of mine who is trimming my seats. Here are some pics of a front seat back cover being sewn up and then of the completed seat back.

I found out today that the diff won't be ready until Saturday. Not happy - cutting it fine now [:(!]

Hi all,

Well, I'm happy to say the car made it to Dublin without a scratch. I unloaded it from the container last week and was very relieved to find it had made the journey unscathed!

The family has settled down well over here so far. I found myself work within 3 weeks of landing and have been keeping very busy. The economic climate is very bad here at the moment so I count myself lucky to be in work.

I have joined the Irish Capri Club http://www.capriclubireland.com/ but haven't met many of the members yet. It is a club covering the whole country so they don't meet regularly like Australian clubs do. They rely on organised runs and the show scene to catch up.

Here was the big day last week.

On terra firma at long last!

I have some storage arranged and I can work on the car there, but it isn't ideal. The house we are currently renting doesn't have a garage so I will have to make do until we decide where we actually want to live long term.

Here are some updates I didn't get time to post before the big move.

I had the radiator modified to fit the Capri as it was a little too wide to fit down in the area between where the bumper irons mount to the inner aprons.

And this is it test fitted. I can't really fit a bigger radiator in - sort of seems overkill now that the car will rarely see more than a 20 degree day here in Ireland!

The front end in - just enough to get it rolling and steering.

Finally the diff was shortened and bolted into place on the old springs.

And my good buddy Dan finished trimming the seats. They look sensational and I'm really looking forward to getting them bolted in some day.

A big Hi to all you guys from the Capri Club in Melbourne. I really miss catching up at the monthly meetings. Thanks everybody for all your help and advice - I couldn't have got this far in the build without you. [^]

I will update from time to time as assembly progresses and post some pics from Irish shows - I plan to head to some of the English ones too![:x)]

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Steve, those seats really do look good. If your door trims look shabby next to those seats I can recomend Aldridge trimming, very proffessional work and would finish the interior off perfectly.

Glad to hear you and that lovely Capri made it safely to Ireland Steve.

Also glad to hear you have work as I've been reading about how bad things are over there. I've been admiring the property market, lots of bargains it seems. You planning to buy once you settle in?

Hi Ron, yes new door trims are on my wishlist. I have heard that the Aldridge ones are excellent but slightly different to the Aussie spec ones. Do you know if they are noticeably different? I don't care really as long as they look good - will surely look better than the ones I have.

Glenn, how's things? What's on in Feb? Parts finding mission maybe?
I don't think you can ever guarantee good weather anytime in this neck of the woods, let alone in Feb!

Mud, yeah things are grim over here in the economy but the price of houses has dropped heaps and are back to a realistic level. Nobody is really sure if the prices have bottomed out though.
We will look at buying once we have settled in a bit more and when we decide on the area we want to live. My only criteria is a GARAGE [:x)] The wife of course has a much longer list!

I went to a classic car show on Sunday and scored a NOS front bumper for only 80 euro. Bargain! Still had the stickers on it, the chrome isnt perfect but close to it.

More progress soon hopefully.

Hi Steve, I too am glad to hear that your Capri has made it to the other side, of the world. Keep chipping away and she'll be finished and out on those Irish boreens before you know it! Now I really do have an excuse to re-visit the land of the Walsh's, down Kerry way, and you too of course. Your name came up on Wednesday at the newsletter night and we'll surely talk about your latest happenings in Ireland. Great news about the work situation for you also. Cheers, Terry

Hi Steve, yes I have a set of the aldridge door trims. If you look at the pattern on the interior plastics(arm rests, console, the bit that goes where the glovebox would normaly be and steering shaft cover) it is the same pattern as found on the aldridge trims. So when put together it all makes perfect sense.
Makes one wonder why the aussie spec is like lizard skin when it doesnt match anything else.

Hi Terry,

Good to hear from you! Yes, slowly but surely I will get the car done. I'm not going to cut any corners with it so it won't be finished anytime soon. I can't wait to get it on the road though!

Yes, there are plenty of Walshes over here! And there is a good pub here in Dublin by the same name which is known for the quality of its Guinness [:p] If you make it over here I'm sure we could test out a pint or several.

I have already been to a car show over here - they had a Capri display to celebrate the 40th anniversary. Not a bad selection of cars too. I have a few pics I will be posting soon.

I am also heading to Mondello Park this weekend (Irelands only international standard racing circuit) where they are holding a track day for classic fords. (over here, almost all Fords are small Fords so they don't differentiate!)
It should be a fun event, especially the Ford Transit race that is being arranged - can't wait for that. I will be taking plenty of pics and will be posting them for anybody who is interested.

Cheers

Steve.

Thanks for the explanation Ron. That has made my mind up for sure. Definitely on the shopping list now.

Hi Steve,

I've just found this thread thanks to buddy living in Oz.

I'm the chairman of the Capri Club Ireland and I must say that I'm really looking forward to seeing this car in the flesh.

Hope you enjoyed our Retro Track Day in Mondello.

We're meeting up next Month in Naas (30Km from Dublin) if your available.

Check us out on Facebook for all the updates.

Hi Michael,

News certainly travels far and wide in the Capri world! As you would know by now I have posted on the Irish forum and am trying to get myself to Naas to meet you all - just need someone to look after the kids for the day as the wife will be away!

Welcome to this forum anyway. There is a huge amount of Capri knowledge here and a really friendly bunch of people too.

Thanks for getting in touch and I hope to meet you soon.
