They are the same as mk2 Escort 1600 struts but have a 2in dia tube..

That was one thing I was wondering if you bought the hubs to suit the UK 1600 struts if they fitted correctly on the Australian Struts.

There couldn't possible be a different fit for the different struts put into Escorts like AUS 1300, AUS 1600, AUS 2L and UK 1300, UK 1600, UK RS (Capri). That would be crazy on a parts persptective.
