VASS Enginners

Hi all,

I'm beginning the process of restoring my Mk1 Escort & I plan on making modifications that will require engineering for road use. I've searched through threads as best as I can and have had no luck finding other forum members asking the same question.

I'm interested in any recommendations or experiences that people have had with VASS engineers in Victoria.

Hopefully by the end of this discussion we will have a list of engineers that all of us could consider.

Thanks.

    Hey Chuff,
When I was going to make the Escort Van electric, I was refferred to Michael Petrovski 0408568161.
He's Geelong region, and seemed pretty easy going and open to working on the project. I'd definately use him in the future if I needs adrise.

    Thanks Deano,

I'll keep that in mind, but he's a bit far from me. I'm located in northern suburbs of Melbourne & I was hoping for someone closer.

Never the less, appreciate the input & it may be helpful for someone else.

Have a look at APS engineering.

    Apseng.com.au

From what I have heard he has actually owns an escort and their website has a mk1 escort with mx5 engine and gearbox as an example of their vass engineering work.

I have not personally used them.

They look pretty good actually Shaun, their Facebook page has a LOT of different / highly modified vehicles that they have engineered.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I've gotten in contact with VASS1089 Engineering (https://www.vass1089.com.au/) and I've had a great chat with the engineer. At this stage I will more than likely go with him.

I can't recommend him as it's only in the initial stages but so far so good.

    Update.

I contacted Steve at VASS1089 Engineering in Thomastown and we arrange a meeting so last Saturday I went and had a chat to him with regards to what I wanted to do with my Mk1 Escort.

He is quite an approachable chap & we had a great conversation but it became very clear by the end of the meeting that he had absolutely no personal knowledge or experience with regards to Ford Escorts.

I have taken on board what he said during our discussion but I'm hoping I might find an engineer who knows Escorts.

With that in mind I have now contacted Michal Petrovski, APS Engineering as well as RSOC & FFCC to see if they can assist in recommending a VASS engineer who has had first had experience with Ford Escorts.

I'll let you know it it all goes.

In the meantime, if any has any other suggestions please let me know.

    Thanks heaps.

    Hi Shaun,

Michael definitely seems Escort minded but he's not that good at communicating. I've emailed him a list of the modifications I would like to incorporate in the build and the only items he has questioned has been the half roll cage and 4 point harnesses which claim to be ADR approved.

I've touched base with him a few times with very little response. He left me with the impression that all the other items I have listed as modifications should pass engineering without actually addressing each item. It's as if he's too busy to have an in depth discussion.

Having said all that he is definitely more Escort minded than the first guy I saw and I'm quietly confident that I can build the car I want the way I want to for the most part.

    Cheers.

any discussion in there Chuff relative to aftermarket seats?

I was tempted to fit some Sparco R100 seats  in the van but found they were not ADR'd, just the EU equivalent.

    Hey Deano,

I listed it as an item and he hasn't said No. I stated that I wanted to replace the current seats with some ADR complaint seats.

These are the seats I am considering:

    https://www.shopsaas.com/saas-seat-fixed-back-mach-ii-red-adr-rp1002
    https://www.shopsaas.com/saas-saas-kombat-seat-dual-recline-red-e1002

I emailed SAAS for documentation of ADR compliance and I received the attached documents which may help.

nice, pretty reasonable pricing as well. I'd like the red.
website had the 2 combat reclining ones for $813 inc delivery to me.

These were the Sparco Ones I was looking at, on special price if you choose vinyl and alacantra:$489 each inc GST

    but again, not Aus approved.
