Mk2 Escort Glove Box
Hi Team, I don't have my car with me currently so I am hoping someone can help. I need a photo of the space available above the glovebox under the dash. If someone could take a snap and send it through I would greatly appreciate it as it will help me design something I am working on.

It's a big gaping hole up there, could almost fit another glove box in there, only thing that'll be in the way is the wiper motor and arms.. I'll get a picture up tomorrow for you unless someone beats me to it

That's what I thought I just wanted to confirm, enough to fit a 25cm long x 15cm wide x 10cm tall box in there?

I can definately help; with the clock pod hole, and a glovebox hole, specially onsidering I dont own a glovebox! If anyone has one they would consider selling, let me know, its been on the wish list. Same with the parcel shelf things, although that might be more practical just to make unless theres something around localy. Will get some snaps tonight. There is a fair bit of real estate, although my wheel woks have eaten into the lower area slightly.I had planned to put the Speeduino in there, maybe b*stardise the inside of the glovebox so its just a fascia, and have all of the loom, Speeduino, alptop access and relays all in easy access. Maybe with an underdash led also. Who wears gloves where driving these days anyhow.

This pic was taken from the dash clocks hole facing to the pass side A post behind the metal dash panel. The wiper motor seems a slight nuisance but I think you can work and it This pic from the pass side

Thanks Marty, as I suspected there is a massive void right above the glove box toward the dash on cars that don't have a clock pod and also toward the kick panel right in the corner of the firewall and the A pillar. The loom is situated there but that's not a huge issue.

sorry, late to the party again. I forgot yesterday was apparently Valentines Day, and so I thought it best to hang indoors :). Hope this might add to MArty's pics anyhow. I took the heater duct pipe out of the way, so maybe bear in mind. they are roughly the maximum space I reckon you have, but its probably less when the wiper motors in, and control cables

250x150x100 would be fine I reckon, at least starting from an empty space. Those dimensions may even let you place the box in a few orientations, on its side, flat on the firewall, or flat at clock vent level. If you were only doing a hacked up van and not a resto quality RS (!), you may even consider doing trickery and just having the glovebox fascia, and all new innards for the sparky bits. Thanks for the thread, and also your pics too Marty, as its good timing. I'm going to try and fit the wiper motor this arvo, provided it tests ok, so now I have some pics at least!

Valintines Day, wossat ? Deano if you need any precise pics just email. Wipers can only really fit in one spot make sure the rubber isolators are there too , bolts are regular M8 I think. Mebby the 10x6x4" shoebox/amp can be mounted on the top of the glovebox with some type of bracketry

Deano you legend, that's awesome! And Marty that was what I was thinking, plastic weld or araldite some brackets to the top of the glove box and hey presto you have a mount for a relay box. Hey it even looks like there is enough room up in there for one of those small A/C modules if you REALLY wanted to get fancy, then you could run the lines straight out the main loom hole or down the pillar and out into the front L/H guard area.... A plan is forming! Im not going crazy am I? I'm 90% sure that would fit, you could then run the tubes and T into the left, center and right vent hoses. Would take some messing about but that's half the fun!

definitely would fit without a glovebox, possibly with one. You could duct tape a mock up onto the glovebox top and see if it fits?

Not crazy, just a good thinker and trend setter ! If you get time to watch Retro Power cars, they do a bunch of fit ups like this, they often use 3D printing to totally resign the heater box/ a/C box and pipe angles etc. you don't need to use what's there is what I'm saying.. I totally redesigned the heater box in my mk1 van as I didn't want water pipes entering the cab so I went with a caravan electric portable heater. I meshed the two together and modifying the box internally to work better and seal better, plus I used a small thermo fan to move the air which I positioned inside the box and used a car boot seal to seal in the air flow from outside.
