Got a chance to get back into it this morning after work. I'm super happy with the result, fits well, minimal pinholes and no warpage. Just need to slightly trim and roll the front and rear guards and this side of the wagon is done for body work. Before and after.

Been a little slack/busy with the christmas period. I did however, finally manage to acquire a car trailer (much to the wifes horror) Half a day spent greasing, adjustting brakes, attacking it with a wire twist wheel and a few lts of hammerfinish paint has it looking like new. Was at the right price, (wrong time) however something ive always wanted. Will definately come in handy with th motorkhana car in the future. Shaun.

Yes you did. 😀 I had been a bit burnt out with car/work/life at the end of last year, as many often are at the end of the year, so took a bit of a break. I had questioned taking it as it was in pieces and I hadn't touched it in a long time. 2 days out, I cleaned it all up and stuck most of the interior back in. I chickend out on driving it there, instead using the newly acquired car trailer.... Parked it next to Nick's Mk1 estate. I'll add some pics, need to pull my finger out and get back into the swing of things. Shaun

Wow not often you see 2x Cortina estates in 1 sitting , hope you had a great day there.
Question about mk1 estate (not that one but maybe) . I was watching a few yt vids with Aus car yards in the 60z, 70z/80z and there was a pic at a Ford dealer in the 60s Bayside Ford?? In the showroom next to a xr Falcon was a dark colour mk1 Cortina estate. What I always understood was they were personal imports or were some here for evaluation etc . ?
When I was a kid back in the 70s I remember always seeing a very used mk1 Cortina estate parked at the Kmart shops and me being 7 or 8yo I knew it was not a regular car like Kingswood etc. Apparently the estate is still about here in SA and I had the opportunity to buy it for $3500 , it had a Dat180b motor and 5sp box, and was also pranged in the front corner ...I let that one go. If I'd got it, the plan was to turn it into a 2dr estate utilising longer 2dr doors and welding the back doors once cut then either a long glass side or plate it up.

I've heard different stories. One was ford australia had a limited number brought in, both mk1 and mk2s, the other was that you could order them via the dealer and ford would import them (at cost). The later seems unlikely, I would assume they were already here, just had to find them from other dealers in various parts of the country. Either way, it would seem there we more mk1s then mk2s on the road. I dont think there were ever too many around, and wagons weren't ever valued, being a family car, so the vast majority have long since been scrapped. By the time the mk2 was around, you could probably get the XR falcon wagon for similar money..... An Australian built 6 cyl larger car rather than an English small ford. I know what most would pick. good job in getting to the show. I saw an Angry Anglia YT this morning, it looked like they had a great turnout of cars. Definately a stinking hot weekend though.

I just looked at the video, it's funny because when they were driving down the freeway I snuck in behind them and followed along for most of the way to the show the GTI identified as an Anglia for 20 minutes!

Thanks however none of them are mk2 wagons and a divorce would cost me more than any car I might bring home, let alone several..... 🤣
I do like the look of the chrome roof rack.ive been towing with the idea of fitting one to mine.
Think I'll go a drip rail mounted one though. Don't like the idea of drilling into the roof.

I've got just the thing for you.. I bought a orange (yes another one) escort MK2 which came from a 1986 parked paddock that's got period gutter mount roof racks. The rails are full rusty but I think the mounts are saveable . If you want them I'll remove them and you just pay postage ?? Rails are just inch round tube found at a steel yard or Bunnings...
