cool, sounds like Mark's got a shopping list open for this years Santa visit. I reckon a decent exhaust manifold and a nice rocker cover would easily fit in the overhead. Will let you know if theres anything else that springs to mind!

I'm not against picking up parts and loading up / sending a pallet back to Aus if there is interest. I'll let y'all know if we end up booking flights. Well I started cracking on with the next little project that I can complete then chuck in a cupboard till re-assembly time, I had to order a new heater matrix anyway so no time like the present. I cracked open the heater box and cleaned the crap out, stripped the foam crud off the blend doors then gave them a rough up and a even rougher paint. I grabbed some of the stick on weather strip stuff from bunnings, bargain 5 bucks a roll and re sealed the edges of the box and the blend doors. I'll grab a thicker strip for the actual plenum on the body when it's time for re-assembly. I may even grab the wider stuff for the edges of the blend doors, I'm not convinced the narrow stuff will hold up. At least I know this will work now and it's only cost a fiver and some spray paint so far.

It's hard to get a good seal, I used some high density foam strips in my mk1 van heater box for those door flap parts. Also ditched the factory fan in favour of a 8in Thermo fan as I wanted a low profile heater bubble plus I added a caravan electric heater core kit so there's no water entering into the car. I'll adopt these tricks again when I do this mk1 heater box .
I might buy the q rack when I get to doing the spension, LSD might be in the form of a 2000+ Triton to cut down so no stress lol

so you don't reckon its ok just to bung the heater back in and hope for the best? Ok there goes my plan. Any good link for the core you ended up ordering? No stress about the parts, we're just jealous.

Crikey Mark, a couple of days away from my devices and you've almost built the car! I wouldn't accuse you of being OCD with that diff, but I will try the roller next time I pull out the KBS. I have a collection of MK1 & Mk2 boxes and have re-soldered a few cores over the years (I pressure test them to about 15 psi which is about their working pressure?). Yes and some high density foam with adhesive on one side (or use contact adhesive) and the boxes come up a treat. Having said that, I bought a new core for the RS heater box two years back from the UK, thought I would give it a try as they came on good recommendation. No complaints to date. I could not fit the heater box back in the Capri so I did the same as you Marty with a little caravan type heater. Draws a ****load of amps but I only fitted it for engineering (demisting purposes). I never use it. Mark, If your heater box is functioning correctly, do you need the bypass tap?

Here is the link to the MK2 one I bought. Should fit, will let you all know when it arrives. $110 landed which wasn't too bad I think. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/253400286140
My thoughts are the cars get bloody hot as it is, I wanted to try and at least keep the air coming into the cabin as low as possible so hence the thought of putting a bypass tap in.

Since we're on the heater core bandwagon.. And those links are handy for future references , I do have a bunch of cores on the shelf as well from long ago parts cars or wrecker runs back in the days. Early mk1 heater boxes are that moulded fibreglass then they went metal boxes a few years later. When I was restoring a long ago GFs 1970 mk1, I installed a TF Cortina heater core, it didn't fit as it was too wide so I bodged the housing so it fits (with the tanks poking out) , leaving the exposed bits uncovered the car got really really hot and we made a ritual to bypass the water during the hot months so we didn't melt, winter was great as she used to drive about in a bikini when it's dismal cold !
MarkA, yes it'll draw some amps but it's designed for Caravans and trucks on parking and 12v but as you stated it's only to satisfy the engineer my van has a new 90Amp alt from USA .. On a funny note, the Kawasaki rad fan I used has a lot of push, to the point that the mk1 dash vents blow out and land in the load bay, slight over engineered there ..
Deano, best to test pressure them as part of the resto, wouldn't want it leaking and wreck the carpet lol

Yah the ability to stop heat transfer from the heater core in Aus is under rated I think. It was ok in England to have the core permanently plumbed. I just remember COOKING in the car during summer so I want to minimize heat transfer as much as possible. So I've been doing some research on the double carb set-up and hurdles on getting it registered / passing emissions and I think there is a way to retain the charcoal canister and PCV set-up to make an engineer happy. I'm also starting to design my secondary wiring loom for things like the radio, speakers, in boot battery, electronic ignition etc. Can the brains trust have a look over this diagram and see if I'm crazy or if this will actually work. Bear in mind I am going to tap intake runner #1 for the brake booster to reduce the pipe run for it and to free up the one on #4 for the PCV system. Either that or the other option is a balance pipe which gets done on a lot of kit cars for extra ability to plumb in vacuum features. Anyhow have a look and let me know what y'all think. The upload compressed the picture - the red arrows say "airflow from PCV" and "To Intake Runner #4"

Good idea on the heater tap, I rebuilt my heater box in just the same way as you have and can still feel the heat wafting from it even when its on fresh air. It does get hot in there but thats the way its always been so I live with it. The pollution diagram looks good to me, one thing with individual runners on dual carb manifolds is that you will have to take vacuum from each of them otherwise the valve on the crank vent will rattle as it open and shuts with each compression. I tried it with mine, one runner first, then combined it to another, better but still the same thing so I gave up and run the gauntlet now Generally over here the constabulary are pretty lenient towards classics unless you're being a knob.

That settles it then, I think I'll run a balance tube. Healeys run them from factory on triple carb set-ups so it's got me thinking why it's not really been done on escorts .

Yeah, I had a set of twin webers and the brakes were vac from only 1 runner and the brakes pulsed on idle which later became a split diaphragm and it went in the bin after that and never ran a booster again in that car
