I've supplied the link so you don't make the same mistake I did and type 'Nice long studs' into the search engine. Once you've seen the results you can't un-see them😂

Hahaha I hadn't refreshed the page so I didn't see your reply, I have a nice set of locking style nuts that I'll be using but the extra wheel nuts were too good to pass up.

I thankfully didn't type that in to google

I'm glad you can purchase direct from Nice and know every detail of what you are getting

Rather than to have to rely on some outlets assurance that ""ýeah, they'll fit an Escort,. Right, totally like Mk1 and Mk2, front and rear as well"

Rear brakes signed sealed and delivered - absolute mission - just like anything one little change had a knock on effect.

The last thing I had to do was camphor the pads down a little so that the thicker rotor could get in the caliper, they are dragging but hey at least they will bed in nice .

I found that the pinion bump stop mount bolts are a perfect first routing bracket location for the hand brake cable, so on went some pipe clamps to route it and now I just have to make up two brackets to hold it on the chassis rail and it will be good to go.

The handbrake already works nice as is too, only four clicks to lock but that will slacken off a bit as the pads wear in.

With the rear wheel studs on the way decided to clean up the fronts ahead of putting them back in, also got started on the h/brake brackets. I didn't have enough material to make two brackets but here is the finished item on the drivers side.

The sway bar mount came in real handy . Now it looks like that was always supposed to be there and less questions may get asked about the lack of the rear sway bar now .

Here are some side by sides of the front wheel studs, I've yet to do the second four, I'll get to that tomorrow.

I've also hunted out the brake lines and will start cleaning them up, I almost have all the bits together minus the booster and rear proportioning valve to start putting the brake lines back on.

That cable install looks really tidy,
only thing a might say is the sway bar mount bracket probably could do with a second bolt or even just a locater pin with a drilled hole in the chassis to stop the bracket swinging down. It won't matter where it is, drill thru both bracket and chassis then pin a small rod like a galv nail cut short then tack it to the bracket, so it's been dowelled or keyed.

Another wheel stud option I mentioned apart from fiesta or focus is falcon, they are fatter and longer but will need the holes drilled to suit by using a drill press. Just an option..

Are you going to make new brake lines ?

Yeah I put an "L" shape on the back of the bracket so it would contact the rail and bite in a little to stop movement but a fastener or dowel would work better.

I want to re-use most of the engine bay brake lines if they come up nice after a clean and some plating, I will remake new front hard line to the calipers though. I am going to modify the front to rear brake line so that it will come straight out of a proportioning valve in the engine bay and heads down to the diff. Then I am going to make a small hard line to go from the brake pressure warning valve to the proportioning valve.

My plan for the diff is to have hard lines running from a T piece on top of the diff to the tramp rod brackets, and have a tab mounted to that bracket and braided lines from there to the calipers.

That's the plan as it stands at the moment so it gets through engineering retaining original safety equipment (even though they don't really work).

Things have been real slow on the car these last two weeks, no progress because I have been concentrating on a bit of a special event!

So I have been conspiring with my partners parents to get them over from England for Christmas, all without my girl knowing what was going on - bloody difficult to keep secret! Especially when I was sending a bunch of parts to thier house for them to bring over for me !

I got a bunch of small parts no postage, my partner got her parents for a visit - win win!

Nice little bunch of bits.
Before the clutch clip goes in check the top of the pedal, they fatigue and can break that little bridging strip, a Ford stuff up in engineering, I couple of light welds will secure it for ever. I've had 2x break in different cars.
Hard to keep secrets like that, hope it's going to go well

Thats classic, I'd say you just earned quite a few brownie points too, good job.

That Oldschool oval makes it easy when you dont know the sizes.
I did lots of shiny new engine bolts on the RP before it was sold, but it adds up.

Hope you have a great Xmas coming, with the extended family and all.

The pedal snapped back in the day and fixed with a new bit of plate and some beads of weld. You can kinda see the repair in this shot before I got them coated.

Yeah Christmas will be great, she had no idea. Only thing is we will be doing a bit of travel and outings so getting stuff done on the car might be a bit tricky. I want to rebuild the engine with her Dad so you might see that if we get to it. Just waiting on a few more bits then I can start the short block.

Got a few more hours this afternoon and managed to get three of the four hubs wheel studs on and the LH handbrake cable braket made up and on - I still need to clean up and plate the left front wheel studs.

She looks the business with those wheels on - one thing I noticed straight away is the right rear is poking a little too much - maybe 5 to 10mm too far out, suspension may need to settle or adjusted once its on the deck.

Not a bunch of progress but hey i'll take it!

Hey mate looking good, loving the reflection down the side of the car, its like a mirror👌

I think the issue of the offset diff / one wheel poking out has been talked about on the forum before. Flighter maybe? Noticed it on his car and posed the question and others had the same, I measured mine up and it sits square but that not to say it hasn't taken a knock big enough to move the axle at some point. It hit plenty of kerbs back in the day.
Is there any adjustment to be had in the diff shackles?

Everything is still loose in the car, the only thing that's tight are the u bolts, I'm confident that once it's on the deck and bounced a few times it will shift - if not there is a bit of ajustment to be had with the rear shackles and the leaf plate and some leverage.

at least Drew could see what the photos were.

I was stumped to see what the funny twisted bit of metal we were looking at was.
Like one of those vase/face images that are meant to prove if you are an axe weilding psycho or not.

Great photos though Mark just the same.
Oh, theres 2 specs of dirt on your garage floor...

I'd kill for a floor that clean ! My area is so dusty, dirt gathers under car covers.

Hey Mark if you car is level to the ground, use a long set square from ground to outer arch or a plumb bob and get measuring from that to the rotors and then leafs and most of all check the diff hanger mounts.
I have built many escorts over the years and wide wheels really show how agriculturally built they are.
I used to make offset pins which gave about 3-5mm but the U bolts limit how far. I'm wondering if swapping leafs across might help..
Diff out and shift the platforms
