Do you reckon those sheets are the same as Dynamat ? I've got some left over mats I used on my yellow van , 10 sheets of 10mm x 500x300 which will be used in my mk1.
Silly question, are you putting the cards back on the floor so the back seat humans have a nice flat floor , if you need measurements I can check on our rally pack

Edit.. Urchfab on yt just bought a Midnight 4dr Escort, turbo Pinto, just a short vid...

Yeah that would be great, I was going to put 2mm alloy plates down but knowing the exact measurements would be ace.

Don't think they're the same, these are 2.7mm by 40cm x 50cm sheets. Update on the progress - this is not something I want to do again , back hurts, hands hurt, everything hurts!

Tossing up if I do the channels/gutter section down each side, I still have 5 and a half sheets left over but I still need to do the rear wheel arches.

I messed up and covered the reverse switch wiring hole and one of the left seat bolt holes, will need to cut them out with a knife but that's tomorrows job.

One tip for anyone going to tackle this, it is significantly easier when you heat them up to the point that they're almost burning your hands. They mold so much better and stick way better after they cool down. Dont think i'll use this brand on the verticals but I think for the floor pan theyre good enough.

Need to pick up some foil tape tomorrow to tackle all the joins but so far I'm happy with the result.

Easy as pie from the looks of it! Not that anyone is going to be sitting in the back seat though

So if anyone is on the fence around using the foil tape I would say do it, it was 20 bucks for two rolls and it elevates the quality of the finished job significantly I think. Shame it's going to be covered in underlay and carpet

Also I'm glad I decided to do the channels on each side, because it meant I had my face at a different angle and I spotted this little pile of grinding debris that had decided to start rusting.

It was under the back seat rail right in the corner completely out of site unless you were down low. Had to break out a pick tool and a tiny wire brush to clear it out. Then I stuffed a rag soaked in rust buster in there for good measure.

I've since gotten it completely clean and sprayed a bit of etch primer in there to seal any scratches up. Would have been a prick of a spot to fix if that rust had taken hold.

I'm having a break and some lunch then itll be back out to tackle the rear wheel arches.

Ok that's the whole cabin floor pan done.

I was thinking instead of lining the boot with matts it would be a better idea to do the parcel shelf and bulkhead this hole with some plate aluminum. Thoughts? Would just need to notch out the tabs for the parcel shelf and rear seat - would have to clean up those welds too to give a flat mating surface.

Mark. So long since I've seen a std MK2, are those cross braces standard? Yes a thin sheet of aluminium is the go imo.

I reckon I would only line areas which will be covered by carpet?

Apparently the Aus delivered 2 doors had those installed, not sure if 4 doors had them too. I know they're not a feature in UK delivered cars like this one.

Maybe... But years of build play a part over Aus del. Aus Escort was a flat pack and assembled in NSW? That's why your RS had a plug for the fuel cap , only Aus has the dropped tank.
Somewhere in 77 the shell started to install those braces , my 76 doesn't have them which came in handy for carrying 3m lengths of pipe . It maybe also cause a majority of cars came with a Pinto that has almost double the torque over a Kent, could also be safety strengthening, buckled roads etc etc? UK Escorts were basic in shell strength , they dittn have the body plating strengthening ours have as standard unless theirs was a Mexico or higher. I will accept corrections as I'm only going from my own experience, not www images which we know are very vague...

Part time, with the deadening sheets, and sheeting the gap , I can't see a problem doing that however I suggest to put slight X folds to 1, strengthen the area and 2, stop that dreaded drumming vibes . Lining the boot, you've got all that plank and carpet yeah, if you change your mind it'll be a pain in the arch to remove so don't do it.. Just my thoughts

And to the best of my knowledge, cars in the UK do not have side intrusion protection. That was an ADR thing on vehicles imported or built here.

Marty, who carries lengths of pipe in an Escort?

Great job Mark.

You need a van Marty if you plan on carrying stuff.
You could be the cool guy at Bunning carpark if you had one.

Some of the last MK2 did have door intrusion bars/plates but that's all I know about that..
Yes Deano, I have to finish off the blue zetec van 1 day, then it'll be a crowd stopper at buntings, much like your arched wagon will be 👍
