Gear shifter thread

Hi, I’m trying to help my husband with a problem (I personally have no idea what I’m talking about- so apologises if the following makes no sense) but came across this forum which may be able to help him.
He has a mk2 escort (1976) 1300 cross flow and has needed to change the gearbox.
He has got a new gearbox however the thread on the original gear shifter doesn’t screw into the new box. The original shifter thread is around 41mm but the new box is around 38mm. Has anyone come across this before? We are having a huge problem finding a gear shifter that fits/can’t find any information online about different thread sizes.
Help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Can you post some pics of the gearbox and any associated numbers on it aswell as the shifter? From there we should be able to ID the box and see if its the right shifter. Theres plenty available online we just need to know which one we're looking at

Mk2 escort stick threads are 42mm dia x 1mm Pitch, early Escort and mk2 cortina, Capri are 38mm . As far as I know nobody makes the early 38mm thread, drewdog might know more on this, unless someone is machining these up. I used to work at Quickco Motorsport and we got a batch of adapters made to accept the 42mm quickshift kit we also made.. If you can load a pic of the gearbox and stick

Good info Marty, thought it may have been the earlier box, won't know unless we get a pic or some numbers I guess.
Tried the usual suspects on the Cortina side, Team Deville, Mk1 owners UK but not seeing anything listed. Bit more searching may be required.
