Boot floor is linnished back and rough grit sanded with 40 grit to scratch up the metal for epoxy primer. There's a bit at the back that I'll need to flat out a bit more but apart from that I call it a win.. still need to drill the drain/jig hole to match the other side

Underneath was prepped as well but the tank will hide most of it as well as the Tetra shutz stone chip. I think that'll be a job for the team mate to do...!

Really hate this predictive text garb, I write pretty quick and then come back a day later to notice half the story is in code , so I do apologize if words are not correct, it's the bot corrector thinking I'm writing in another parallel universe !

Boot carpet, MarkA yes the rally pack is a road car being restored to original as it's a 1 owner from new. A couple of odd things it was ordered with was the boot carpet if a dealer option and a tow pack with extra wobbly leafs plus the dreaded EndRust treatment that leaves holes in the door jambs but it didn't stop rust in the usual places.
Once it's nearly completed I'll put pics up on another project thread

Back to the cross member, as said the other week the steering rack has a bung cog on the pinion so after finding a pile of old rack parts from my quick rack conversion days, I sourced a good clean one and installed with no trouble. While there I installed these blue gaiters , only cause the original ones had splits

Might have found a use for the old gaiters, they fit perfect on the struts as a dust boot !!

Here's one for MarkA, but not directly !
Since I'm in the build up process of the mk1, there's a few things that are missing and I've run out of stocks. Something like indicator housings.. I have 1 that came with the car but that's it, I think I binned the other as it was smashed beyond repair. So I brought the remaining housings inside and took measurements , then jumped into the tinkercad and started creating a new housing.

This is the 5th or 6th attempt at perfecting it, thickness was to thin in places so it needed adjustments. I have removed the factory lamp holder in favour of modern twist lamp fittings.
The factory housings is on the left and my practice housings are next to it so you can see the mods for the modern holder. Also I designed the gasket to hopefully seal the unit that's been printed in tpu, a rubbery plastic similar to phone case material. Which can also be seen on the housings test pilots

Once I've got them to a stage I'm happy I'll print with petg as it's more strong and heat resilient , colour will be either orange obviously or silver, tho I will glue in chrome reflectors so it's bright when flashing. I will not be printing the lenses , I've got a few sets in storage , and for the price some shops are wanting for coloured Perspex is out of control.

Yep I think I will go into tinkercad for a bit of early learning. Seems fairly intuitive once you learn some hot key commands like align, rotate, etc
Time poor atm so will just do bits of design when I can. Worry about printing at a later date.

Marty, do you go into things like fusion 360 public models to see what others have designed and put out there for others to use?

I think TC has had a recent upgrade, I turned it on this rvo and the grouping icons have coloured and a new one has popped up.
That tuning fork shaped thing takes you to another page where it's more like Fusion, where your can draw lines etc and bend the lines as you need, I used this for the indicator housings.
You'll get the hang of it pretty quick, of I'm modding a item, I double it out triple it before I start cutting and altering, yes you can reverse what's done but I have just deleted and gone with the spare to restart with. It's also handy to double it if you want to lengthen or widen by cutting the top off one and bottom off the other then join (union) together.

Thinkyverse and printables are my first point of search then I do a general search , I think printables is where I got the bulb holder file from and then integrated it to my indicator housing with TC. I have added to thinkyverse with a couple of things or modified someone else's. I did modify a solder wire holder to spool better and added a magnet slot so it can be stuck close to the wiring job, if it's a metal car etc.

Thanks for the heads up, sounds like Tinkercad might have grown up a little, which is great.

There was a point where you just couldn't quite do what you needed, and would have to look elsewhere.

Tinkercad is for kiddies so I figured it would suit my limited intellect in IT.

On another note. Finally got the Escort back from the tuners (2 1/2 Months). Engine out time to sort out this oil leak (I suspect the winged sump) and actually mount the intercooler at the front where I was avoiding all along. Charge temp at safe levels only allowed for 140kw (atrw). I think I might have drink!

Nice work MarkA, but what is kilowatts ? I'm a bhp and hate trying to convert it with power train losses.
I'll guess it's about 230bhp arw, not to shabby at all. Very drink time!
I had a 2x 40mm Weber'd pinno 2.2L that pulled a healthy 117kw on the first run, a bit up the rev range tho at 8900rpm , I still have the bottom end in my MK2 but the head was sold to John Beasley (Beasley hot water owner/later bought out by Rinnai) for his rally car, he fitted 48s and got 126kw at about 8500rpm.
Get the innercooler out front and add dry ice, you'd be pushing near on 200kw 😜
