I got out the compliance tags and noticed 2x anomalies .
The first is the paint code which I can't find on line
Y017 , some sort of grey I think is original colour.
The other is the year made , 11/73, but from all the mk1s I've worked on is they have upright shocks from Sept 73 but mine has not got them and why I installed turrets

It is a very rare colour in the XA range, under the fleet/corporate colour section.

I doubt there'd be many escorts in that colour??

I've done silvers before and are ok to spray on. A test of painting ability was my orange mk1 zetec (Focus ST electric orange) , it needed a good base orange to reflect light thru the metallic, you cannot just go over grey primer cause it won't work. So it's orange base coat, electric orange metallic/pearl colour then the clear on top. Silver is a walk in the park !

Had a go at painting the tank silver, not the corporate silver but one I've had in the shed for around 15yrs ! It's still fine to use after a good stir with the drill mixer. The silver in question is an AU Falcon mix called Meteorite, tho I remember when it got mixed they didn't have the correct metallic so I chose a more colourful aggressive one, I'm still unsure how it fits through the 0.3 nozzle with those big flecks



Zooming in the silver, it starts to look like a different world lol.
Moving to the car itself, I have got the lower half of the rear quarter in primer, it's not 100% yet tho on the next pass it'll get better as it can be seen better where the imperfections are at. The arch is blended in nicely remembering it's a front arch from a mk2 escort van !



The top half shouldn't be so hard, there's only minor dips that can be pin pulled out.

Short story long.. I bought that 'bubble archer' back in '95 as a basket case 1300 auto XL 1974. It was going to be my track car with a zetec to flog around Mallala when I could.
The day I bought it $250 we drove it home and done a nearly big burnout on the driveway, it went for about 20sec then lost fuel, we pushed it in the shed and stripped it, selling what we could. I made the bubbles from fglass and stuck them on properly, it's been that way for 30yrs nearly, now I don't know what to do with it but it might become a project soon.. It's still got the 11000km Mondeo zetec under the bonnet !!

I mounted mine where the towbar was mounted as it's a common spot and holes are already there, I sometimes add extra support where the rear bumper mounts at the back, this depends on if the rear panel needs work or not.
Just make sure you get enough space to access grinders and stuff, mine is a bit tight in that area, even more so with the Focus ST disk rotor blocking the view !

you'll need a vented, grooved disk, 4 pot caliper, hydraulic handbrake and chrome plated castors if you want to keep up with Marty's rotisserie :) !
