Im still lurking!

Our time is eaten up a bit atm. Misses found out she has cancer so we are going through treatment now, put that will 2 boys under 3 and me trying to work as many shifts as i can while she is feeling 'well' doesnt leave much else on the plate.

Most of the attention is on the 60, slowly plugging away at small jobs that i can do!

Hey Robbie, That's tough mate. Hopefully you have some good support.
You still nursing?
If so I'm sure you see enough of hospitals in your day.
Good you have a project to get some time out.
Maybe we should start a 60 series thread

Geez Robbie that's hard news to take, we hope she will have a full recovery .

Don't over do your extra shifts as your pay will end up going backwards .
I did a 13hr day for a week and 12 on Saturday plus 8 on Sunday when worked for Holden and I lost money but tax man got almost a fair chunk.

MarkA , thanks for the comments on the welding, I don't have a oxy set but the Tig makes a good second choice , I used silicon bronze filler rod, it's like magic glue for metal !

Thank you class lol and hey Justin, don't be a stranger.. if your misso is reluctant for you to get a project car, say she can help do some of the work or teach her a few little things as you go, make it fun as you go. As for Escort project, a lot of us are doing vans, they are rarer than sedans but don't have the recognition they deserve yet, saying that, they are almost cheap to find a bando that's been raided for parts for a sedan and the shell is left over. A cheap start might help the misso get onboard and if you decide to sell the end product it could help pay off a chunk of mortgage etc . Obviously the more you can do yourself, welding, shaping, beating, mechanics etc the cheaper the project will be to do. We hope you can find a project soon..

Back to my epic project..
I cleaned all the black paint off the tank as it might go to the anodise shop but I want to pull out a couple of dents before I decide..

Moving along to the doors which I think are in ok condition after the fire, I have taken them to a local blaster shop and he said he'll do both for $400 including etc primer, can't go wrong there, I'll ask what a whole car will cost when I get the doors back, just thinking for the van/ute project coming up.

I was amazed that they both fitted in back of my mk2 Focus easily !
On a lighter subject I was opening the sliding shed door at work and felt a tap on my shoulder, a quick look and this hairy star bounced off and hit the ground, I nearly soiled my shorts lol

Now that most of the fabrication is done I'm getting into the bodywork , starting with the boot lid as I need to get a mold done of the skin, the last one I did 15yrs ago changed shape over a few summers in storage. Stripping off 4x layers of colours took a while and it was dusty work, it's back to bare metal now and I'm only going to bodge this up so it's straight enough to get a mold from, it killed one grinder and a coral reef pad!

I bought some Velcro sanding pads from Smith n Arrow but these are like drywall sanding pads, like fly mesh!

Check this one out, the sanding revealed a map of Australia and Tas !

Back in the shed for more bondo sanding..

Yeah Marty those tomcat discs are great. I get them online only because hardware stores are starting to get over the top with prices. I think last time I looked a 100mm disc was close to $15. You can get a 10 pack for about $30 including postage. And you can really go through them. The fuel tank should come up well. What finish are you planning for it?

Another thing I used more on the boat was the 3M Roloc discs which we have talked about before. Also chatted to 3M's tech guy about bringing a lot of the alloy back to life. So I used the 2" and 3" Blue Roloc discs. This is some of the before & afters. They are super easy to use, but I discovered a really good air tool is critical in terms of the litres per minute it requires to run. At one stage I had both compressors running and alternated every 20 minutes or so.

This is the product I found to protect the newly polished alloy and Bronze with (Protecta clear). Not cheap but came with good references. Time will tell.

Hey Mark those wheels came up a treat, nice work there.
Finding a map of Aust on the boot lid is handy in case ya get lost !
I spent a couple hr's on the boot lid this rvo, doing some sanding and priming, letting the first thick coat dry. Lucky it was a 34deg day to speed up drying time, I then sanded any high spots down and gave it another fat coat of primer filler and that was it for the day..

After sanding and the second coat

Deano, I scanned back thru my pics but couldn't find a pic of the next van, it's just a mk2 van 78 2.0 with tacho dash and stuff , it's real rusty , it's got Valenti style wheels, UK brand 100+ , shame they only 13x6 tho , I'll take a pic or two tomorrow

Hey Deano I found some pics from 10 yrs ago of the van, it was only bought for the side panel from the door to taillight but I went against that plan and used a 4dr back door instead so this van has been sitting around ever since..

Please don't ask about the bumpers, I don't know and don't care. The Pinto runs fine, everything there works but over the years I've slightly raided bits from it. I'll get recent pics tonight to show how bad it's starting to disappear..

wow, genuine 90's crushed meuve interior!
I can see why you bought it, just for the door trims.

I'd suggest bubble arching it as well, but youd have it done  and running before me so I wont.
What about some custom archs, rocket bunny style.
A van version of the Hoonigan coupe? with your 5 spokes

Yeah, nah...

This van is going to be a ute for reasons the pics will show later on..

My plan is a sedan roof height, which is why I saved the green skin, there'll be lots of changes going on at the door pillars, sills and speaking of arches, there's a coup parked next to it with bubbles and zetec motor.
The arches are either going to be changed for mk2 coup arches, yet to see it when uted, or I'll cut the whole rear side away and put a 25-40 mm strip welded in and that'll widen the complete side panel, sort of a blended X pack but real steel, same with fronts, even thought about widening the grill /lights so it looks in proportion, don't worry I won't kill any grills attempting it.
Did I say about engine, box ? If I can find a good one it'll be a 2.5 turbo diesel from a Mazda Bravo or Triton 2wd or similar, if it's going to be a tow car it needs the engine to cope..

That'll upset the anoraks!

What do you reckon ?

oh yeah, I forgot being privvy to some of those plans, old man syndrome, sorry.

But tow car.? Sounds sort of US stepside style then? Xpack guards look would work, give the english wheel a workout as well.
What about 4wd it while you are there..

Man, I could have bought your full length headliner instread of the new one.

Won't get in to this whole debate on arches etc, but it would be a good base for those sort of mods with the parts which have to be cutoff.
V6 Essex then you'll remain a purist
By the way that bumper at first look may be TE/TF Cortina?

I think the bumpers are from a Sigma.
V6 Essex, hard no ..

Here is some pics of the roof showing how bad the rust has attacked it. The side window has slowly been pushed out by a tyre leaning against it on the inside. I give it a couple of months before it completely falls out, then I might put it back in if it doesn't shatter hitting the ground

While on the interwebs last nite I came across this Jeep forum, some guys GF got up and posted about how he's always working on his Jeep and is it better that he part it out or sell whole etc.. The second comment is ballistic at the girl in a subtle but to the point answer, here's the link, it's entertaining to read a few following comments as well, check out out..
