2021 Capri Mk1 Prices

Hi all,

Just curious what everyones thoughts are of the latest prices achieved for Capri GT V6's

Noticed a recently restored to near concours condition pop up on Gumtree in Tassie for $70k, didn't last long so I assume it sold.

When we going to see the first $100k Capri GT V6 sold?

IMHO I think Mk1 Mk2 and Mk3 will keep rising in prices; exponentially .........  no brainer.

    Why?  ................
1/ They're an official Aussie built "Muscle Car" in V6
2/ V6 sre rare; each "write-off" makes them rarer. How many are left compared to the "other" Muscle Cars?
3/ The V6's are renowned worldwide for their reputation on the Track and on the road.
4/ They are the car "You Always Promised Yourself"
5/ They are such a fun car, and so simple/easy to repair and maintain.
6/ They are "unique". Petrol Heads with money want to be seen in something "different" instead of all the
post 1990 Falcons and Mustangs and Rangers and Utes and BMW and Benzes et al. that are super common as well as super problematic, as I see them failing twice as much ( being generous here),  as our Classics did back in their day. EVERY mechanic I speak to report the same.  We have NEVER been so busy in my 50 years.

$100K for a 100% MINT original all matching numbers Capri GTV6 is just around the corner

Lloyds just auctioned a 180B in the classic car auction.  That tells me we are near the top of this stupidity.  I just hope it lasts long enough for me to get mine ready for sale.

around 10 years ago I considered selling the Capri to look at changing to something like an original MX5 for soemthing different.

I didn't really need the 7K or so it was worth.
I ended up having a new MX5 as a work car, and now the Capri is worth $$?? i dunno how much.
It seems every year I pay the Shannons renewal the car should be insured for more.

Hope the same happens with the Mk2 Escort, plus the van projects underway.

I think the prices of things have gone a little nuts and tbh i wouldnt be buying atm because i think they are over inflated. Also what things are being advertised at and sold at is always a different story!

In the end i dont mind and my insurance value keeps going up so its nice to have something increase in value.

Beevee if it is like most early ford parts pricing nowadays you may have to sell your Capri to afford a boot lid for a falcon coupe boot in good condition

I think prices will continue to rise, yes that restored Capri did sell for $70k, a restored matching numbers sold for $75k mid last year, and 2 wanted ads for a completely original matching numbers, 1 willing to spend $80k and 1 willing to spend $150k (that $100k mark may have already been cracked). I think if we see a few more sell for the $70-80k range they will continue to rise. There is no denying how rare the v6 gt Capri are in Australia, and I think classic car buyers/collectors will catch on soon.

It'll be a sad day if that should ever come to pass !  Been told a good ORIGINAL bootlid albeit with  holes from spoiler can be found from $2000 upwards.
It'll be a very cold day in hell before I would sell my Capri for any reason at all, let alone for a bootlid for another car !
    Cheers

    G'day All,

Just a quick question, I thought all the early 1970 V6's had Bonnet Pins and Clips, not the Twist-lock type??

    Any idea when they changed?

Mine both have the Pins and Clips.

    Still, a nice example though.

    Regards,

    DJC.

Yes most of 1970 had pins.  According to the parts book the twist type are for Nov 70 onwards, however the rear dummy vent, what Ford called the ornament, was dropped in Nov 70 so there wasn't a bonnet listed with both.  It was either pins with vent, or no vent with twist lock.

But the 1971 brochure shows a bonnet with twist locks and rear vent so who knows what happened in Nov 1970.

Nice enough car but has been restored at some point. Dash facia/console inserts aren’t original woodgrain pattern or colour. Bonnet is wrong, especially as the blackout is the shape used in 1972.

As for the price, a line from “The Castle” movie comes to mind.
