If its one of those accuspark kits it shouldnt change the static timing any, it just replaces the points and condenser, you still running the vac advance?

Also those trims and that dash look absolutely mint, well done!

Yeah I have heard the full dizzy are not great and the skew drive grinds away causing metal flake oil, but the elec kit that goes in place of the points are reliable, you could hook up your speedino and just run spark for now till you EFI it later ..

Was kidding with the dash top, I was thinking as it is glass copy you could've done my trick and roller it in primer and paint black , vinyl cover did come up sweet but.

Yes I think it is the Accuspark type, which will suit for now.

Speediuno one day, those ITBs keep looking at me from the shelf...
Had some fun figuring the heater flapper linkage connection, but thats ticked now too.

I found the carpet underlay the other day when looking for the dash vinyl, so that can go in shortly as the main wires are roughly in place.

Has anyone done any UK orders recently?
With the exchange rate, freight and hassle, I've just got some door seals and trim clips and the ignition stuff coming from Yesterford. I did look at that USA supplier mentioned. Pity they didnt get Escorts sent to that part of the world back in the day.

I haven't done any UK order for about 2 years, with the current build I use the RS shop (which is price effective for a single item, but isn't really any cheaper if you are getting a bunch of stuff). This is cossie stuff though.

I have a mate who brings stuff in monthly, so get him to bring things in,
I can pass Pete's details on if it helps anyone . He is pretty tight with Burtons so you get better idea of time frames etc for availability etc.

A quick search
https://ebay.us/m/WUMnns

Correct USA didn't have the joy of our Escort models, however they got Mercury Capri from 71 to 86 but gotta exclude that rubbish front drive Mazda soft top. Cortina mk1 and mk2 so I recommend to cross reference part numbers, the well known Ford Pinto with the 2.0 tho was dropped in 73 for the better 2.3

urrgh, I hate it when he does that!

Normally thats what I find automatically, as soon as you've done an order, you trip over cheaper prices soon after.
Actually, no, in this case $82AU compared to Yesterford's price is pretty ok.
Plus its should be here this morning, so can be played with on the weekend.

I dont mind supporting Mike, because it's good to have some stuff local when you need it.
When you do have more than a few bits it becomes worth questioning though for sure..

I would really like that too Marty.
The time might have come to stop f*rting around with stuff and get it going.

The electronic kit came yesterday, and  was the Accuspark. I just need to work out if the loom has a ballast wire  (I'm pretty sure it did). The new coil supplied was a traditional Lucas wet, 3.0Ohm, which needs the ballast resistor.

I was wondering regarding the fuel tank, if the van had a return line included? Cant remember, but i'd like to hope so given a 2L was an option.Might have to reread my own thread.

Its meant to rain all weekend here, so hopefully some progress is on the cards.
Will let you know.
Have a good weekend guys.

My RS didn't have a return line if that helps? Vapor lines and supply line only.

Have a look in the owners manual. My 76 MK2 has a vapour return only .
77 Pinto have both vapour and fuel return I'm sure. Part Time, if you still have the original carby it might have a return outlet opposite the fuel inlet. I've always removed the returns, just have fuel going in!

ok, will check the manual first just to be sure.

You might be right about the vapour line though.
I remember the 2L 4 door had both return and vapour: I got them mixed up at the start, and the first longer test drive had the charcoal canister fill with return fuel.Oops.

Checked out my Ford 77 Escort manual.
Its from 77 when the 2L started that the fuel return line was added to the sender unit

Thanks Mark for checking.

That might be a prob if the flange isnt configured for the return already, but since its not EFI and just running normal mechanical fuel pump, I'm hoping Martys experience of blocking the return line is ok

ok brainstrust, I haven't asked a dumb question for awhile (at least I hope), so here's the next one.

Dipsticks:
Before I fire up this engine, I'm not feeling 100% confident that the oil level may be correct.
The pinto itself I believe was a Transit version, and has had the sump changed to Escort.
The dipstick though, I'm not sure.

So, question is, does a dipstick measure the waterline  (oiline) level needed for the block, relative to the crank etc, or does it measure the amount of oil volume below the line in the sump? ie. what is critical?

I figured that if its the waterline thats important, that will be consistent irrespective of the sump shape fitted below, just the volume of oil needed to fill to that point will be different of course.

If its the specific volume of oil thats more critical, then I could drain it, refill with correct measured volume and make a new corresponding mark on the dipstick.

Maybe overthinking, but everyday is a school day as they say.

I don't think it would be a different dip stick or tube, I think Ford went cheap and just adjusted the oil amount accordingly. Escort is about 3.25ltr where as Cortina is 3.65ltr due to the larger sump pan volume. So fill to the correct amount or there abouts and check the stick, it should be in the ballpark and nothing to really worry about as long as you know you've got over 3ltr in there.
Also you used a escort pickup pipe so should be fine
