I was going to say that's a bad weld but is a real nest. We had a swarm of disgusting pidgins crank nests all in my shed and under the annex over the pool last year. It got to a point I bought a nerf gun and heavily modded it to shoot them as a deterrent, now there's 6in spikes everywhere on beams and angled boards in the C channel in the garage... They got the hint and any minions that return get attacked accordingly . It's also adjusted the possum traffic as a byproduct!!

I finally found a basic engine to fill the blank spot under the bonnet. I have been told it has only done about 600 kms since a rebuild. It turns over fine by hand, oil look clean and under the rocker cover wasnt too bad. It was originally an auto, but came with a gearbox and flywheel. I just need to track down a clutch fork and spacer. Oh, and some engine mounts, new alternator,distributor...

some member on here convinced me to look at these:From a 2007 Honda CBR600RR bike. They were a bargain online, and did not need much arm twisting for the price. So plan is to use either buy a DanSt off the shelf inlet manifold, or crack out the 3d printer to print one. Of course im choosing the hard option, so will have a play drawing something up.

progress on the van has slowed just now as the 4 door is being prepared to sell. Its much easier working on something thats 90%+ there, rather than 19%. Plus it means I get to fit some of the nice bits ready for sale. So brakes are bled again, new round grill fitted, H4's working nice, boot tidied up and new seal, rear floor subframe blacked, annoying brown doorcards now black, and the bodywork sorted a little more. Jobs left to do are some clearcoat touch ups, new steering wheel to go on, dashpad looks a bit tatty and it should be a tidy little toy for someone very soon. before, neat but faded: much better in period black! pinto and 4 speed manual= smiles. Still sounds good. new battery in boot I really want to fit the rest of the Rally Pack stripe kit , but the new owner might prefer it as the Ghia look (which it is/was).

Do it then deano... Stripes make the car worth more money. I proved it nearly 20yrs ago, silver mk1 escort without RS stripes, 4k$ With RS stripes $7500.
Suppose back then it was a new thing to do, bit of a novelty , now it's the opposite, we want them clean and no stripes lol

Ok, thanks dad, I will. :) Just so the bucket list is a little lighter. This weekend is forecast to be brass monkey weather. Hopefully a light rub back tonight, one more well thinned topcoat tomorrow, followed by clearcoat on Sunday, then some time for the clearcoat to harden. Might put some pics up Monday. Enjoy the weekend fellas.

There has been no panelwork on the van done, but stripes went on the rally pack over the weekend, so only a couple of minor jobs left that will be done before the car goes on the market and then its back onto the van. Overall i'm happy with how it presents, not concourse by any means at all, but is should be a good useable little project for someone to have fun with and finish off. Meanwhile some bits have arrived to convert the van pinto to EFi for the bike carbs: a bare Speeduino board, the pcb components, a MAP sensor, a suitable case, and of course the Arduino. Pictured below came to about $130 worth, and the components about $60 from memory, so approx $200 so far. This, and a few plugs and wiring will get you something running to start from. Then its the engine sensors, crank sensor etc. to make it really functioning. Still a cheap and featured EFI system with support for DIY. The software to tune will be Tunerstudio, which is free for the base version, and I have downloaded the base version to get going. Once we are running, the pro version has an autotune feature that tweeks the AF ratios, so will be worth getting. Reading up on this lot, and everything you need, it would have been equally complex (or simple) just to have stuck with the original plan to go electric with the Netgain route. Only difference is the $$$, and the sound. Maybe the EV van will be version 2.0 down the track. Time to start soldering.

not much happening on the van, apart from sorting Speeduino components and playing with various modelling software to draw up the pinto inlet. The rally pack finally got some badges on and just needs a clean, then its 'For sale". Will put an add up here first before it goes up elsewhere. Maldon swapmeet this weekend, plus a few drops of rain forecast today :)

up for sale at a swap in Maldon over the weekend was this Uk based Kitcar. $2K could have bought you this Charger beast, complete with air cond, gull wing doors, and escort door handles. cute little Austin van Apart from a set of Ford/ROH minilights for $200, not much Escort stuff around as per normal. I found a few odds and sods to help setup a test stand for the pinto, but have been delayed a few times now still waiting on the correct sump to arrive. hopefully back onto the van soon.

if it was a Eureka, I would have bought it, and suffer the consequences later. Would love one, something about them reminds me of the Pink Panther.

wow, must be time for an update, I couldnt even find my own thread. Anyhow, various stuff has been going on in the background. The 4 door Rally Pack (kindly named the Yellow Peril) has had enquireys from SA, Darwin, and even from someone wanting to send it back to the UK. It would have sold easily if I'd taken up offers to swap it for numerous Commodores, a BMW 1100 bike, various caravans or the odd ski boat. Escort pinto sumps seem thin on the ground, and so the van engine is wearing the cortina one for now as various bits are slowly coming together. At least its now wearing some fresh paint, recod 32/36 and a few bits. Unfortunately I was rough with filling it with new oil, and it ran down the outside of the block. It was sitting on a large plastic sheet, but later. when I turned it over by hand, it got to the compression point, and proceeded to slide off the workmate like a well struck penaly shot.Fortunately my shoulder and right arm where there to catch the 80kgs of Pinto. Good save.

next, the Speeduino update. Its alive, well sort of. A new case has been ordered and the Voltage regulator extra that allow analogue crank sensor signal to be understood. Plus it didnt go up in a cloud of smoke yet... Tuner studio gauges look blank, but the board is actually talking to the TS software, now it needs inputs connected. The 3D inlet manifold is now up to version 15, as i learn some new software to draw it with. The overall length and angles mimic ITB mounts available overseas, but will probably end up being chopped shorter. It now has a few fillets, bosses for where it mounts, and also some o-ring voids for insta gasket goo. Still a work in progress:

Hi Deano, Been a while for me on the forum. I was able to view but not log on. Our admin Glenn was unable to resolve the problem with the apparent wifi issue. Anyway one day it just decided to work???? and he helped me with new login details so a big thanks to him. Not about to get into 3D stuff love the concept you have going. I am getting closer to sourcing an ECU for the YB. I was looking at Link as it is available from the UK as pretty much plug in. But then I see what you are doing and wonder if I'm up for the challenge or if it can be done for my application? Here is a pic of the Escort, a bit stagnant for the last few months as the boat has been my priority once I sorted a reputable shipwright to fit in and work with me. So pic of Harada and even though its a Ford site sorry to say it is getting a Gen6 BBC.
