over the manflu now so back to it. It was getting time to get some of the car in primer, to see how bad the lines look, and prove how not to do things out of order. Out with the tinsnips and cut a whole for the rally roof vent. A short section of pvc pipe was about the rough size to make a dorade baffle from. Not much of this gets seen under the outside vent cover, I just thought is might save some rain entering down the vent. One step forward, then when I was sanding I found some thin areas on the rear rear passenger side of the roof skin which is a poo, so roof will stay as is until I swing the van around. Drivers side and engine bay got some paint though, epoxy 2 pack undercoat that I had from the boat, and yes it's being rollered on. The benefit is you can do patches as you go, no overspray, and easier to build up a coating thickness. Bas side, the time it takes, and lots of flattening. But its meditative. Squint and it does not look too bad. All of the body lines need repicking out, but its a bit of a start. The topcoat was picked up last week, so thats sorted. Also got a new gearbox crossmember, steel for the headliner bows, windscreen rubber and back door rubbers. my aim now is to finish undercoating the engine bay, then get back on the welder to fit the guards and inner wheel arch on one side.

Looking good for that roller effect lol, plenty to block back. There 1 epoxy that sets like concrete and must be flatted within a few days or you'll be there for ages. I was at a old guys place yesterday looking at the mk1 escort he's selling and he's got a windowless van there I wanted, he didn't give a price as it's a project on hold but I might score it for a grand or less , will see..

Hi Deano, this is Mic, I sold you the tailshaft and rear shocks for your "Elecscort" van a while ago. Just came across this thread while surfing the net. I seem to have lost your details so if you are around I'd love to pop over and check out your van. The Mk1 Coupe is evolving, can't remember where it was at when you came over. The RC yacht is also nearing completion finally! Cheers, Mic

Hi Mic, sure thing, i'll pm you. The EV side is on pause for a moment, I got up to buying the adaptor plate stock in, and starting to work through clutch options. The batteries and motor were mocked up for fit. Marty's 'Daves' garage" link above is a good one for making the plate adaptor, and was roughly what I had in mind. Still will happen one day, but I got itchy feet to get something completed and driveable, so it is too tempting to put the pinto in for now. Your rear shocks are in, and the tailshaft re uni'd. You'd just found a blowback issue or leak with the sidedrafts last time. On the Rc boats, I finally got around to putting together a Dragon flite 95 thats been in the shed for 12 months. https://www.hobbywarehouse.com.au/joysway-8811-v2-dragonflite-95-df95-white-hull-radio-control-racing-sailboat-without-transmitter-or-receiver.html but now they are foiling them....

has anyone bought a replacement windscreen recently? I have a new rubber and am wanting to arrange the windscreen soon. There was someone on one of the FB groups 12 months ago supplying them from NSW or QLD? thanks

Thats what I had figured also, but the local Obwiams Wimscreems is booked solid for about 10 weeks, could not even get through on the phone. Must still be cleaning up after the last hail event. I will need to either wait or just find an online supplier and fit it myself.

Instant screens, mobile glass , I'd be calling the lot. Just occurred that your van is still in undycoat, can't put screen in till painted. But if you must fit the screen yourself use lots of dish soap to ease the window in while pulling the string and someone applying pressure from outside. Also the roof liner needs going before glass or it'll be coming out again . You know what your doing lol

yups, its all interconnected. The unexpected roof rust messed my progress a little. Order of jobs underway: 1. first topcoat of enginebay (cos its rubbed back and I need to tick off something) 2.maybe paint topcoat around drivers door shut if there's left over topcoat going to waste 3. repair roof rust, filler and undercoat 4. undercoat further enginebay hidey bits with any left overs 5. topcoat roof and windscreen surrounds 6. hopefully ebay seller is back so I can get headliner in 7. windscreen. And in between, get back into welder mode and complete an inner arch tub, and fit/gap front panels. I was worried that the pinto powered van would be too much to handle 0-100, so I have some autobuilders sound deadening sheets going in, about 1/2 done one the rear panels so far. Should weigh it down nicely :) Repco had them at same price as autobuilders website, plus with members discount and no freight, happy days.

It was still relatively warm in the shed last night, and one tin of the topcoat 2 pack had a few dregs left, so it was time for the first splashes of colour to go on. Dont judge it yet, as I did not even brush in the creases yet, there wasnt enough paint to justify killing a brush, so this is just a teaser. Yes the colour does look like basically shiny primer, its actually a little more blue than the pics show, and is called Galleon Grey. The engine bay must be the most fiddly to paint, but it will sand flat nicely now and I'm happy judging from the starting condition. Outside of the body will be way easier, and the epoxy primer applied so far is already starting shine up a bit. Just not sure of the strip colour to paint yet, possibly something more vibrant:orange, metallic or electric blue? Theres a few runs but nothing that cant be easily fixed. Now that MAFS is coming to an end, progress in the shed improve :)
