Haven't been to Keith, that's a few suburbs across from me.
Did go to Mt Gambier Speedway one year many moons ago, following the Easter Sprintcar trail.
Theres nothing like copping clay in the face for 20 laps while eating lukewarm 4+20's.

Maybe for xmas party we all do a virtual hookup/teams?
Each run a laptop with webcam, and we take turns to do a shed walkthrough, project update live.
From Perth, to the top end, Mornington Peninsular, wonder if there's anyone down Tas?

Thoughts on an underbody spray? I wasnt going to bother much, but I cleaned and etch primed under a front guard last night, and think there's too much invested in the guards not to protect them from stones underneath. Ideally something that comes in its own spraycan would be good it it exists.

Keith is a nice country town, we was on a farm that sheers sheep , we drove Polaris all day on the farm when needing to move the lambs etc, great fun..
Tetrashutz underbody spray deadener you'll need a special gun to spray them tho

Hey Deano, It looks like you've already sorted the apron to guard but I like Marty's idea of tabs and screwing. I think I always like the idea that things can be disassembled. Wish so much that all our cars had bolt on guards.

On the underbody Marty. I have just stripped the Escort and am about to get the rotisserie out and fabricate ends to suit. I'll start posting on the build again as I'm about to do all the final welding of the tacked up panels and components. The bottom I have done in a an etch primer, so was not sure what i would go over that with. I love the KBS products (think I've mentioned that before) so maybe the chassis black? Thoughts appreciated.

Virtual hookup sounds good however I don't use a laptop. Keeping up with my mac and iphone does me.

Hey Mark
With underbody, I'll be hitting it with 2pk primer sealer over the etch to seal the panel, then if you want to go a stone chip spray, I usually paint the underside the same colour as the top . I also only stone chip under arches and the outer chassis as it's very rare the floor gets attacked unless rallying, plus a shiny undercarriage does look the best .
Chassis black/GMH black seems a cheap out in my opinion... Even tho I did it on the yellow van !

somehow the van only came with 3 seat mounts, and the drivers one was pretty agricultural at best and looked like it had been chopped down to lower the seat height at one stage.
So I ended up making 2 new ones

and a job I have been putting off needs to be done.
Any suggestions on reshaping the leading edge of the rear arch?

It needs to be 'shifted' forward, to suit the larger wheels better.
I'd ideally like to keep the profile of the arch edge, as its sort of folded in a nice curve, not a sharp 90 bend, so that rules out just cutting the corner off  straight down as such. I'm thinking maybe to cut up the tape line to the where the crease is, and hopefully push the whole corner forward?

The forward tape line shows where the new inner sill  end return still ends.
When I put the guards on, they where centred around the centreline of the axle, which seemed the right place to start. The pic shows the leading edge closer to what it is real life (I think!)

Those seat posts are nicely done, get them on ebuy lol .
The rear arch hooks back heaps at the front, I would cut the arch return lip of right up to near the 12oclok pos , then manipulate it to how and where you want it then mark where to cut the strip out, trim and weld the return back on....
Or redrill the main leaf pin further back and refit the rest of the leaves, must be done both sides to keep axle straight..
Your going lectric so where the diff resides is not a issue.... Is it ?

I didnt even think of looking online for them. The first took maybe 1/2 hour to make, the second about 20 mins.
Anyhow, thanks for the suggestion on the arch Marty, sounds ok to try.

Yes I still plan to do electric.
As it will run the gearbox and tailshaft, it still needs the diff in orig situ.
I am getting more eager to have this on the road, I think the quickest route will be to fit the 2L from the 4 door for now.
That way I can iron any issues out  first before then doing the  conversion.
Plus I want to try the van with a Pinto just to hear it!

I meant to sell them on ebuy !

You'll want to cut the arch on the second line so you don't lose the style pattern of the arch, I forgot that bit .

things are pretty quite here this week on the forums.., only crickets in the background.

Anyhow, there was an RS owners club show an shine in Geelong last weekend. Of course, not that anyone in Geelong knew, nothing gets publicised much. I would have liked to see it but did not know it was on. Did anyone brave the floods and attend?

I played around with some painting, so now have 'Marty Red" springs, front sway bar and steering gear.
Clear over base paint looks average until you get the clear on! The red was just brushed on, to save the neighbours cracking it from any overspray. Supercheap had $13 rattlecans of clearcoat, and a spray on under chassis coating, so I gave that a try also. New bushes to go on, then back together.

Also, the rear suspension has new bushes and replacement shocks, but is otherwise stock.
Is it worth tracking down a rear swaybar?

Without us few the forum will be very sad lol..
Noice red duco there 👍
With rear swaybar, I don't really care to much for them..I like the rear to squat and lean when powering thru corners.. when you add anti tramp bars you can't run a swaybar as it gets in the way. I think I've got one but it could be bent, I don't have bkts tho, (similar to steering rack mounts) . A spension shop should be able to align it again if your desperate..

Nah, no big reveal anytime soon. I've only just completed the tasks (tarks) for youse vics on the van for a friend, about 6 months of tinkering. In that time I've bought a 3dr Focus mk1 and plastered loads of time and moneys on it, still going with the exhaust system and that'll be it for a while... Not only that, my daily Focus mk2 ST blew a oil filter diaphragm causing real big noses and it's not meant to be driven till it's fixed, Ford want $789 for the part , Volvo want $400 , so I bought just the diaphragm for $20 on eBay instead of the complete unit, I'm still waiting for it to arrive, in the meantime in driving like a Nancy and the fuel consumption has gone up a bit... Sorry the rant lol
