The standard Capri V6 engine used in Australia was the 702F 6015 AA, with the 702M 6049 AA 'oval' port heads. These were used on all Australian assembled V6 Capri's from Jan, 1970 through to Nov, 1972. In the UK, they received a 'Facelift' Capri which then used a 722F 6015 BA engine, with the 722M 6090 DA 'D' port heads. We never received the 'Facelift' Capri in Australia. Terry

They are just standard v6 heads. I have 2-3 pairs of the same at home.

Those heads are Oval Port Heads. Not D Port Heads. Not "Special" heads. Stock standard regular heads.

Hi, I continue to read about "AA" and "AB" , yet I still haven't seen these letters, before or after numbers on any parts that I've looked at. Looking into the engine is 1D.

OK, not sure where your finding the AA and AB references from but here's the section for Engines from the Australian Capri parts manual. Have a look through this to see if you can identify all your bits and pieces.

I do appreciate any help from you all, I have done some research, not really able to make sense of it all. No help from my father he either doesn't know or doesn't care. And as for his phone...,.he's probably picked it up from kmart, can't open any files you have all posted. I'll look over it all tomorrow night when I'm back home with mum.

John, I just posted the V6 extractor part numbers on another topic "138hp and 165hp" and as you'll see those part numbers end in "AA" and "AB". There are also other V6 part numbers that use the "AA" in the parts catalog as well and you're right the "AA" letters are also used on 1600cc parts throughout the engine parts section posted above too. I think we're on a wild goose chase here!

With regard to your engine number and the other characters on the block (your earlier photo above refers), here's a breakdown of the other characters, ie. 11J22. Firstly, it looks to me like the 1 has been double stamped (like the last 3 codes of 40P on the engine number) and so the code should probably read 1J22. This is the date of the engine, where 1=the year built, 197 1, the J=the month, Oct (as in A=Jan, B=Feb, C=Mar, etc.) and 22 is the date built, 22nd. So, this motor was built on 22nd October, 1971. Hope that helps you.

Is it possible, this engine is one of the highest numbered oval ports left?

Yes it is, though I know of a couple with higher numbers! That doesn't mean that much though, as they can and were released out of sequence order, especially over the last 4-5 months of Australian assembly.
