Alternator upgrade

Hi all,
Looking to upgrade the alternator on the RS, something like 80amps. Any suggestions-one that will fit without too much modifications and has the right terminals/ connections?

Cheers, Len

Quite the coincidence Len, as just this morning I'm diagnosing alternator issues, and wondered whether it was worth simply swapping it out to something better than the old Lucas ACR that it came with. I've heard people put Falcon (Bosch?) alternators in, but I don't know which one or whether it is a straight fit (to the existing mounting bracket and tensioning arm). Hitachi or Denso alternators are reputedly lighter and more reliable, but again, I've never seen specifics of which model or how to install it. Hopefully someone will have some advice for the both of us (noting that I don't need big current like you do; 40-55A would be plenty in my case).

I've got a Bosch alt from a XF Falcon 80amp in my mk2 Escort, mainly cause the case has 4x 120w up-down spotties and 100/120w headlights, it was rebuilt in 2000 not long after the first pinto went in ... It's still there and working strong some 100,000km and 4 engines later .
I know that VN-T alts don't fit unless a new bkt is designed ...

So, stock mounting and belt tensioning gear fits it Marty?

I think so, or it'll need some slight bending to align up , nothing to hard to do 👍
