Just an update on this. Looking at other Escorts it appears that you're right Marty. Referring to my first pic the left lock is MK1 Escort and the right is a MK2 Escort van. I've since taken the the door trim off both my doors and they appear to be the exact same style on the inside, that being of MK1 Escort style. I know that the MK1 and MK2 Escorts have different style doors with the exclusion of the MK2 van sharing many similarities as the MK1. The MK2 van door appears to be the same as a MK1 from the outside but was wondering if they appear the same on the inside once the interior trim is removed. I'm now just trying to determine if I have a MK1 door with a MK2 van lock or have a complete MK2 van door.

A mk1 door is identical to a mk2 van door except the door open handle is the same as a mk 2 escort (ie pulls inwards) whereas mk1 handle looks like the window crank handle , levers up. 1/4 turn. ..
Of you've only got the bare doors to compare, the mk2 door has a oblong hole where the inner open lever sits but a mk1 has a 25-30mm hole and 3x screw holes to mount the mechanism. And obviously the mk2 for week have the bigger lock barrel hole. Solex locks fit in both barrel holes if you want better locking system. ...

    Cheers
