Speedo Cable

Hi all,

I haven't climbed under the car to check what model gearbox I've got (was converted from C3 to 4spd manual); but I replacing my speedo cable (didn't register at the dash) I've noticed that the ends seem to be different.

Has anyone seen this before? Does the end off the original one come off and go onto the new one?

Cheers,
D

Hmmmm, may have answered my own question - will confirm tomorrow when I get a moment with the car, but suspect  that the person who did the transmission conversion left the auto speedo cable there...

    Looks similar to these:

These'll be the two ends you probably want plus a circlip if it's a standard 4 speed into an Escort (guessing your vehicle)

The circlip is 1in with inny lugs. If buying new cable I suggest from UK and for a mk3/4/5 Cortina 4 speed as they are 6in longer... Makes life easy for install around exhaust etc especially if pinto 😎

Note that the Firstline cables from the UK have a thicker flange at the gearbox, so the circlip won't secure it. Someone on here shaved the flange down to make it fit, but I expect that is exacting work.

Whereabouts are you located Diskonekted? I've probably got a couple of spare long new ones I could sell if you're local,  SE suburbs of Melbourne. Otherwise our Aussie Cortina 4cyl TC & later will suit & be longer to clear extractors downpipes. (Or Euro Cortina mk3 onwards if buying from OS)

I do have a contact  up Newcastle way (NSW) that could supply if that's closer.

Hey everyone, still haven't had a chance to take a look at the car, but just wanted to say thanks for the feedback - can always count on the CFF peeps.

I didn't really explain the original photos, but the cable that is outside the bag is the one off the car & the one in the car is the new one that I got from Burton (http://www.burtonpower.co...1-6-2-0-fks2013.html).

The ends of the new cable look the same as what SFE posted; so will give it a go when I get a moment.

    Thanks gang!

    PS: Car is a MK2 1600 Escort.

    Hey SFE,
Living in Canberra these days, but am no stranger to take a drive to Melbourne or Brisbane for the heck of it :)
    Cheers,
