Ford Letter of Authenticity
Have just received a letter of authenticity from Ford for my 1970 V6. Interesting!! Error 1, When I purchased the car back in 1970 it was in its original colour, Diamond White, the compliance plate shows colour code R - Diamond White. The letter shows colour code R which Ford say is Copper Bronze (metallic), which isn't even a 1970 Capri colour. Error 2, The trim code on the plate is N, which is Dark Saddle vinyl, the Ford letter says the car trim is N, however they list N as Light Saddle. Error 3, The car was originally sold by Morley Ford, Yarra Bank Rd, Melbourne. Dealer code 3126. The letter says the selling dealer was dealer code 3126, but they list this code as President Ford, Elsternwick, Vic. I know it was sold by Morley Ford as I have the original maintenance schedule book that lists the dealer as Morley Ford, code 3126. The option list is interesting, seat belts are listed as an option but also listed as mandatory, they can't be both. The car had the following options, 47 - Delete hood pins 50 - Delete black hood 56 - Driving lights 60 - Delete Super Roo stickers. The car did come with the side stripes and GT badges above the rear wheel arch. When I bought the car it was exactly as the option list indicated, since I have owned it the car has had a colour change and the hood has been painted black. As it left the factory it was possibly a fairly rare beast with the options it had. Don't believe everything that the Ford authenticity letter, obviously their records aren't 100%, but the wrong colour and trim has to be some sort of finger trouble.

I’d be asking for a new letter with some thought put in. Just sounds like a careless Ford rep that compiled it for you.

How do you go about getting this done? What is the address to write to and what to ask? Might be a stupid question, but I would like to get mine done without me sending it to the wrong department at ford.

I had same problem with my 3 Fords, and after ringing them with correct details, they re-sent CofA with correct info. I always rang Campbellfield Melb for my 3 Fords as they were all sold in Melb

Makes you wonder how accurate that certificate is , I applied for one last year for a V6 we were contemplating purchasing , I wasnt even the registered owner but I sent my Drivers lic info & they gave me and sent a certificate & all the info , then the real owner applied for one a few weeks later and his info was different to what they had sent me??? with different options etc so which is the correct certificate & info ?I dont think they are worth the A4 paper theyre printed on to be honest. A bit like the capri ID numbers ...too many discrepancies !!!!! I guess its part of the Capri Culture and we have to live with it :)

https://www.ford.com.au/owners/contact-us/I found it's quicker to ring them then to email them, they take weeks to reply. I didn't need to provide any ID and it takes 2-3 weeks to receive the letter.

Thanks!! I always thought that the delete option meant that everything was deleted ie black bonnet, bonnet pins, super roo stickers and side stripes with the GT badges mounted further back, however in 1970 at least it looks like you could pick and choose what you wanted deleted.

One of the things about the Capri. Really you bought the base and added to it. Or alternatively you bought the bells and whistles but stock from factory and the dealer fitted it. So even though it might say no radio sports wheel etc it might have been picked up with everything added but Ford don’t know about it.

Dealers used to order the cars in delete form then add the stripes, bonnet blackouts etc, themselves. That way they made a few extra dollars. That will explain why your car had them yet the build sheet says it didn't. Dales used to swap cars between themselves if a customer wanted a specific colour or drivetrain combination, that may explain why it was delivered to one dealer but sold by another. The paint and trim errors were most likely the person at ford looking at a falcon list from the same year.

Hi, I had the same issue with ford, she was reading out the letter over the phone before she sent it to me and i had to correct her regarding the diamond white code. Mine is also a delete option although mine didnt have the side stripes aswell as no bonnet blackout. Wonder if mine had super roo stickers since i didnt have the super roo delete option. As others have mentioned, not sure how reliable these ford letters really are. Cheers

I had to have a bit of a laugh at the gearbox option though, "4 speed close ratio gearbox". Obviously nobody from Ford had ever driven a manual V6 and changed from 2nd to 3rd! Close ratio???
