Cant believe how many pocket pissers there are on this forum, this GTV6 guy  bailed out on a legitimate  Ebay sale ,  he then spent days bull****ting to me and wasting time so that he could cancel the sale , and you PP are backing him up???
GTV6 how about you post the photos of all the bodgie  welds that lay underneath that orange paint mate ...I dont think your car has an original panel on it ...how much rust did the car have  for it to be band-aid welded as it is ??, its been patched up by a back yard welder who excels in sparrow **** welds , why would anyone put fiberglass  guards unless they wanted to drag race it and or its had a serious front end smash , surely you wouldn't go to the trouble of replacing the entire guards for a spot of rust here & there ??
The price you started it at was more than it was worth ...we bought it at that and then you bailed out , your putting so much emphasis now on the fonts ...take a closer look at your 1 & 4's ....different sizes mate , FORD were re known for changing the font size on the letters , but all the numbers I have ever seen ( and I have seen a few ) are ALWAYS the same font size ( 3/8 or 10mm )!! but i,m sure someone will correct  me... to back GTV6  if you do send some pics thru I would love to be corrected , I thought this forum was to share information & learn from one another via our love for the Capri , at the age of 17  in the late 1970,'s I already owned my Mk1 Capri as my first car , so my love for them goes way back , there was no forums or BS or backstabbing back then, we just used to hang around in a local car park & exchange stories face to face  & have a few laughs unlike today ... so much BS floating around.
And for your information GTV6 the people that warned me about your car after you cancelled the sale are on this Forum !!!
So best you keep your orange capri for your self , becuase if you sell it to some poor unsuspected  enthusiast they will be shocked when they start rubbing back the paint!

I was there in the 70's - matching numbers 😵 - Never on the radar

u r right - matching numbers do attract more money- what a burden - anyone with half a brain can do a dodgy - and a really good one - so now what?
you've created a new burden -OMG

As far as this car goes - easy street - if I wanted to buy it - as I said - I'd go and have a look - if sus it in 5 minutes - the whole issue solved for me - regardless of who says what ( inc the owner)

gtcapri, you reminisce of the good old carpark days, but in the now you're trying to buy a car site unseen over the net?.. and then take to a forum to express your displeasure at not being able to secure it?
Reality check... carparks, shows, clubs and the opportunity for face to face exchange still exist, you just need to look for them. The arm chair option obviously isn't working, inspect the car in person, say what you have to say about it in person and shake the mans hand in person if you want it. Otherwise find another one.
Cheers Drew

Fibreglass guards were promoted by capri clinic in WA as an easy rust repair alternative and they had nice little flares to give clearance for mags, they were very popular here.  Unfortunately over the years the mould must have distorted and towards the end they didn't fit very well.

The slam panel stamp has a small j

Dear Drew, our beloved cars may be stuck in the 70's & 80''s...but unfortunately technology isn't & hasn't  , as you know everything is online these days  , gone are the days you saw a car on the Trading Post early Wed morning  ...fingers crossed you were the first to call the owner & get an address ... , take a wad of cash with you & hopefully seal  the deal by lunchtime ...and yes a handshake to follow :) !!
Now almost everyone prefers "online"Auctions  and aswell as the vast amount of kms between states  makes it difficult ...we have to rely on good old fashion "honesty" from the seller.
Cheers

Maybe time to just enjoy it for what it is.. a Capri. I picked up a Capri from Geraldton a few months ago an nice tidy 72. Got lots I don't like about it but plenty that I do but I drive it once a week an enjoy it for it's simplicity. I see people judge it and that's ok because normally their the ones who are 5 years into a rebuild they'll never finish. I'm lucky I have a few , some are just parts cArs one is the oh my god your converting a 1600-v6 how dare you, one is a v8 full rebuild and a couple of 1600 dailies..but the one thing I've noticed the last 18 months is you just don't see them anymore. 99% of steel bumper car shows I go I'm the only Capri if I'm lucky there might be one other so maybe don't worry about what numbers do or don't match what guards you do or don't have but smile and give the thumbs up whilst out driving because you are still in a Capri!!!

I think the lesson here for some of us that use ebay is that its not a handshake, its a legal contract based on ebay terms and aussie contract law, and if one party breaches those terms, it is very easy for the other party to walk away.

Once there has been a breach of contract, for example a buyer refusing to pay in accordance with the auction terms, there is a process where the breached party can cancel and the other is then given time to appeal.  Ebay is not their mother, if they don't appeal, ebay doesn't chase after them.

If a buyer asks for the terms to be changed, that can be considered a counter offer under aussie contract law which automatically extinguishes the original contract permanently.  The seller then has the right to reject the counter offer and walk away.  The original contract can not be enforced.

I know. I traveled to South Australia just before I bought the White Auto. There was a black V6 for sale that looked good for 20+k. Air fare, accommodation and car hire.
Found a heap of major not minor issues and suspect even being a V6. Walked away with all my costs. Never a bad word said. You live you learn.

Sometimes peoples circumstances dont allow them the luxury of viewing a car in person ...and it what we call .."taking a punt" and thats what was done 5-6 hr flight 2 ways was not an option at the time , punt was taken , car was purchased and then the seller decided to not sell . I  bought  an interstate car with only photos  being viewed , honesty is the best policy , that car is still sitting proudly in my shed.
I agree totally the best way to buy a car is to see it & feel it with your own eyes...but as I said sometimes due to work or family commitments & I bet we all have done it ...we have to take a punt & suck it & see .

Sorry to say gtcapri that different font sizes were used on the same car. An original slam panel stamp. Different font and sizes.
Ford must sometimes take some blame.
