.... the return wire for the coil swinging with the G force contacts an extractor pipe .....

Know the feeling.
Scooting down thru Moss Vale and Kangaroo Valley NSW on a club run.  Great drive but the road is a bit lumpy and bumpy.
The V6 starts cutting in and out, with no clear pattern.  Manage to struggle to our overnight accommodation. 
In the light of a new day, a from-first-principles electrical check discovers the ignition circuit feed to the starter has broken the electrical connector tongue/spade off at the solenoid case, and this is waving around and occasionally shorting out the circuit ..... on the extractors.

How many of you have a soldering iron in your tool box?
5min job to fix, 2.5hrs to borrow a soldering iron from a neighbor.
