Pinto vacuum advance

Looking at hooking the vacumm advance up on my 2litre pinto, the advance unit has two barbs, one faces the front of the engine, one the back.
Which one do I use? or does it matter?
Can't find a decent pic in my books or any diagrams on the net.
Any help appreciated. Drew.

    Hi Drew,
Found a copy of the original emissions diagram, don't know how relevant it is to your current setup.  Did you eventually get a copy of the parts cd, found the diagram in the illustrations section.  Len  Bugger- can't get it to load up - Section 96 slide D15

Hope you have better luck than me Drew on the Vaccum and emission setup.
I need to do round 2 on the pinto emission config attempt.
It runs ok and I thought I had it hooked up according to diagram, but smells too oily/fumey to be correct I think.
