Original Radio 1970 V6 Pictures?
Has anyone got a picture of the original radio for a 9/1970 Capri. Looking to purchase something to fill the hole in my dash.

Here's a scan of page 3 of the 12 page Cortina/Escort/Capri Accessories page showing the Radio options. And yes Bernie, they are/were only AM, as FM for commercial stations didn't commence until 1980.

Fantastic Terry and thanks for the upload............I'd welcome either of the 2 radio options with equal enthusiasm should one come up for sale at a reasonable price (I have a 70's Holden Genuine Radio I'd swap for a XY Falcon Radio missing from my XY Falcon)..........cheers Happy New Year

Dont mean to hijack this thread but can anyone tell me what the deluxe push button radio which was option 73 in 1970 was, as mine originally had this and want to see if the right one is what came with the car.

What you have there was essentially fitted to all years of Mk1 Capri, unless the dealer fitted something different (or there was nothing fitted at all).

So any idea why Ford would say its option 73 if it came with all Capris?

The radio would have been option number 73 in a long list of options, probably for the entire Ford range. For example, for the XW and XY falcons, option 70 is a deluxe manual radio, option 71 is the push button version, and option 72 is a radio tape player.

Does anyone know if the 3 Radio models shown above were the only Ford approved Radios fitted to all Capris 69 to 72 when ordered by buyers, as I gather the Capris , Escorts, & Cortinas never came std with radios by default; it was an optional extra, yeah ?

Radios were optional, there was a woodgrain blanking plate to go over the holes in no radio was ordered. I have a capri push button radio as per the top picture, but no knobs, ill have to dig it out
Capri The car I always promised myself

You've got to remember that back in 1969-72, we only had AM radio and you'd even be hard pressed to find a compact cassette player for your car as well! They were just trickling into the market around that time, normally as a separate unit from the likes of Pioneer from Dynamic Auto Accessories in Dandenong!

At one stage i did a bit of research about original Capri am radios , i have always known them to be the same as Spuds picture and 70gtcapri photo , they have 4 lines of numbers and letters, and also have the oval ford symbol either in the center of facia or to the right ( perhaps depending on the manufacturing year ) the ones depicted on Terry's accesories catalogue i have only ever seen fitted to escorts and cortinas . My original one also has a factory part number and " Capri" stamped on the metal casing , id you look carefully at tge dealers catalogues you can see the radio that is fitted to be the 5 push button with 5 lines of numbers and letters in fascia ,if anyone has a spare set of knobs for the above radio i would be interested in buying a set , condition is not important . If anyone remembers the article featuring "the wild Plum" the owner goes on explaning how he finally found and "original" radio cassette for his capri, i actually tracked him down and quizzed him as to how and where he got this information from , he then explained that there was a Phillips radii casette that was optional fitting for the early ford falcons and that some dealers where offering them as optional , im not sure how true ir accurate tge katter may be, but when u get back from my stay in Tassie i will post up some photos as i have 2 x units of the exact radio casette as fitted to the wild plum capri
