Replacement box ideas?

Hi folks! I hope all is well.

I'm in the market for a new box for my mk1, as the original type-2 is on its last legs.
I want to keep it a 4 speed and would like to know what people make of the "bullet" and "rocket" boxes.
How much should i expect to pay, and where would the best place be to source one?

As always, Im ever so grateful for everyones comments and help!

Cheers,
Siggy

I have a box that should be what you need. This is a low mileage Box that is purported to be "as new" with no issues.

If you're after a 4 speed I'd go with a Mk2 Escort box, cheap, plentiful, easy to get bits for and will hold the power of a mild Kent. Just watch the speedo drives, they vary between 1600 and 2ltr, they've got different rear diff ratios.
    Good luck with it Drew.

Thanks everyone for the speedy responses!
Yeah i saw a "7000 series" box on gumtree for $200. Visually it looks like a "Rocket" box, with the exception of the tail housing looking slightly different. (Someone correct me if im wrong!)
Is it worth joining up on FB to see what people have for sale on FB groups? (Yeah....i dont use facebook...so im out of touch with it all)

I would consider going to a 5 speed, but the outlay seemed a lot more involved hence i just mentioned 4 speed to begin with. Is it a move worth making?

Anyway again, thanks for all your feedback!

The 7000 series bow you are looking at looks identical to the standard 4 speed Drewdog mentioned above.

That makes total sense! :) is it a straight swap for the original type-2 box with only the gearbox mount being different?

    Hi folks,
Reviving the post to let you know how I went with this conundrum. And a shout out to all that chipped in with some help!
I have since sourced a rebuilt all ally Quaife helical type 9 from the UK.

I am probably the most limited fella on this forum with regards to space....but i do plan on properly tackling my Esky to fit some newly acquired bits, including the gearbox! Stay tuned.

    Cheers!!
