Question RE: 1600GT Manifold Throttle Cable bracket

Hi all,

I have a question regarding the throttle cable bracket I've got on my Escort.

It's a Kent motor with a GT manifold off a MK1 Capri and a 32/36DGAV on top. The bracket seems to have two mounting points for either one cable or two. I've only ever had one cable attached (to the square side), which is the throttle cable - but this appears to be too long and has rubbed on the air cleaner (as seen in photos). I'm told that there are different length throttle cables for the Kent motor (depending on whether it's pre-Xflow or xflow), so I've got a replacement to sort this out.

Does anyone know what attaches to the other side? The one with a round hole and slot where presumably the cable runs through? I've had the car for over 10 years and have never used it, but there's been heaps of things with this car that I've been 'finding' over time that needs correction. Looking at aftermarket brackets, they seem to only have the one side (for the throttle cable) - so I'm thinking that the other side can be hacked off without any problem - but I'm not sure if this was originally used to help secure the clutch cable, speedo cable or something similar...

Cheers,

Whooligan's nailed it. Later model Escort manifold with automatic kick-down cable mount.

Personally, if not running an auto, I'd cut the kick-down cable mount off.

    Just sayin'.

Thanks peeps, always good to get some wisdom bestowed and learn a bit more about these cars.

Yep, I'm keen to cut that part off and will give this a crack on the weekend - should save me 30 grams or so!

A question about the manifold - I've seen some other down-draft manifolds that have longer runners; so what's the advantage of this one over those (if any)?

Longer runners are supposed to give better atomisation of your fuel/air mixture as you have more time for the process to happen, giving you a more even combustion. Len
