It seems our Capris don't follow any hard and fast pattern or protocol like Falcons & Fairlanes which I know from experience are very much stricter

How can you be certain it was the original headlining? Unless you have owned the car from new and/or have the order documentation showing a special order request, I seriously doubt it's original.

i was going to do it white
but my mates dad who was a upholsterer at ford homebush in the 70's and 80's  and did my interior told me after looking at it that it was the original factory black trim and to re do it black ....

There's a good chance it was white like the rest and sprayed in black vinyl dye which gives the appearance of being black???

i thought the same but he told me its a genuine black  trim no bleaching of black dye any where and still had the cloth backing on it ...  as i mentioned wanted it white but he was 100% sure it was factory black even had some of the same trim in his collection he grabed from ford when it closed down ... just wasnt enought to fix or re do my roof in
