I used an air joddler to great effect. Also seemed to have the benefit of stiffening the edge of the then very floppy rear 1/4's after the cut. Bonus was the tool also had a hole punch. Alternatively you can mount the flare under the 1/4 skin but neatening the rear seam becomes an issue. Get the suspension in final configuration fixed first so you can put the bubble in the right place centered on the wheel. My front bubble is nearly 40mm forwards due to caster etc. JP

It was the most scarey thing I did to the car. Cutting those mahoosive holes...... Take your time. Get the swag lines to match - you may need to spray some paint on the panels then lightly sand off to reveal the swag lines better. I wouldn't mount them under the panels as that will create a nice lip that dirt will settle in = rust. Weld VERY VERY slowly else you will warp the panels. Do a spot say every 6 inches then go around and add a second spot. Keep going until it is all filled in. I have seen cars with them on back to front. I bought mine from Gartrac and they were very nice (think they were solid gold if I remember the price). Good luck.

I'm old enough to remember when customising cars was cool, and remember Escorts getting about with inverted XD Falcon front indicators and the like. Not my cup of tea visually, and I personally think a disaster for anyone who wishes their vehicle to retain its value (as a collectable and monetarily, which includes me, even though I'm never going to sell). But it's your car, so make it how you like it.

whooligan But hey, I own a Capri with Escorr fibreglass bubble arches, XA coupe tail-lights and Datsun headlights which I think looks pretty cool.
I'd like to see that!

cheers fellas i know what you blokes are saying and mean ... but considering that im already cutting into the quaters for the steel bubble arches , putting on the round light front end , its sought of lost its original stance in one way by fitting the above parts ,, and i think its just really if i sell it which i doubt only a rear beaver panel that you can buy repressed anyway and fit it back on ... ive always wanted to fit round lights of a 240k on my very first escort which never happen due to being young and silly and brought other cars .. i like the look of being behind a skyline with the round tailights for some reason , and thought they would look good and different on the mk1 with the bubble arches ... the mk1 is not a gt or anything like that just plain old L model im also thinhking of putting in a fully alloy interior and the half roll cage .... i just have it in my head to build the escort i have always wanted to do 30 yrs ago...

Maybe you could photoshop it to see whether you like it before you start cutting metal.

Go for it, it sounds like something you've had pictured for a while. One of the old CF mags Whooligan was selling off had a pastel blue Mk2 with round frenched tail lights, removed door handles, delipped gutters, Rs 2000 nose, X pack guards etc. I would have been happy with the original car before it was modified, but if the workmanship is good enough, I think you can pull off just about anything. LED skyline rear taillights get my thumbs up. Rip into it!

I personally think it would look rubbish but then it matters not what others think. If you like it do it!

cheers fellas think ill go ahead with it as im not a fan of the rear lights that are on it atm .. i guess in one way its really not that much different to changing from front rectangle lights to the round rs version ... i like the photoshop idea, will try and see if i can get somebody to do it .. i wouldnt have a clue how to use photoshop. by the time i work it out would probably be quicker for me to graft the lights in the beaver panel lol cheers fellas
