Ford Capri Seat Covers-Reproduced in Australia

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ford-Capri-71-72-High-Back-Seat-trim-Covers-Full-Set-black-basket-Weave-Inserts-/132107130612?hash=item1ec232d6f4:g:U-MAAOSwCU1YsMua

Just wanted to let you know if interested for seat cover replacements, I used this Motor trimmer TONYALLTRIM off EBay/Facebook that used my original seat covers to reproduce New exact copy's of the originals in the correct vinyl grains, He can source other factory colours too.
They are Australian made and I'm extremely happy with them.

They look well done. I just want to know what you would do about new foam for the seats. Where would you source them and how would you cut it to make it right.
I wouldn't think it's a good idea to reuse the old stuff and also the bottom rubber that supports the front seats.

    Hi Benny,
there are two types of high backs fitted to aus. mk 1 capris, and i was wondering if these suit the ones with the tilt lever on the base or the ones with the tilt lever half way up the backs?  Cheers, ron.

     Ron,
I don't make the seat covers or any way related to the maker, just got Tony to make me replacements, he can make what you like if you have low back front seats unpick the covers so he can make the patterns, Mine are 1972 and had the tilt lever half up the back there are no holes cut on the new covers for side lever, so I would assume you can use these covers on both styles, just when fitting mine I will make a small cut/hole provision for the upper side lever, easy as.

I'm very fussy with my cars and I'm very satisfied with the product it is a genuine copy of the original/foam inners, metal rod support where hog rings attach, basket weave vinyl etc and so are others Tony has made trims for, He does a lot of GT Falcons, Torana, Monaro stuff too.

As for the actual seat foams, mine are like new so I will be fitting them as they were, If your foams are destroyed don't think there are any aftermarket options except fabricate sections from a supplier like Clark Rubber etc who can cut & supply foam & glue/bond back, or try source another decent seat to salvage the foam.

I will be fitting the covers in the coming weeks and will upload images, Just got to detail a few items, My original trim colour was Saddle on a standard worthless rusty 4cyl Capri-So you matching number GT V6 guys don't kill me, I hated the colour so will be spraying black the plastic covers and other little items on the seat.
The seat backs being plastic can either paint black, but I will cover mine in vinyl, easy job with a bit of spray adhesive & razor blade.

All so got to buy a decent pair of Hog ring pliers to do the fitting job.

    Benny,
thanks for all the info. I only mentioned the tilt lever position so as to describe the different seats. The shape of the seats is quite different so i wouldnt be confident that the covers are interchangeable. Anyone ordering that dont have the seats with the lever half way up the seat back would be wise to send their old covers as a pattern.

Thanks Ron, I didn't know the 71/72 seats were different shape?, Can't imagine Ford  making extreme changes, the Back plastic seat cover, the  clips for example are 73 Mustang Door trim clips, Which I'm missing 7 and will need to order.

My trimmer must be cheap because he re-did my seats (labour and materials) for just a fraction over this price.
Does he do the low backs as well and include the backrest?

Glenn, You must have a honest trimmer to quote that cheap stick with him, Low backs you would have to contact Tony to see what he can do?

Benny, i decided to order a set. I have a pair of each style of seat so it will be whatever fits best.
tony is doing mine in black roebuck (xy gt) and black cloth inserts (xa gt. This is as per original for this car. The seat frames are from a 72 mk 1 escort and feature a knob to adjust the seat back on the move. Call it a safety item as im not the only one that drives this car.

Well I fitted Tony's covers in 1 day, was a fairly straight forward job and my first ever attempt at replacing seat covers, I'm satisfied with the result, the covers fitted really nice, they do require some assistance to try and eliminate the wrinkles, I think I could have gotten the driver seat a tad better, actually I think it's the Brown Paper Ford? used on the upper head rest area that I removed that perhaps added packing out the vinyl?, the passenger seat did not have this brown paper, weird and fitted really nice.
The Seat backs I wrapped in Vinyl all so those clips for seat back if anyone needs them they are the same a Ford Mustang Door Cards, easy & cheap to find. And colour dyed the plastic side cover pieces from Saddle to Black.

I went and saw Toni this week as I am working in Melbourne. We compared the two types side by side and the only real difference seemed to be the high back headrest which is larger on the tilt lever which is half way up the seat. The rest seemed identical apart from the hook mechanism on the lever for the high up lever. He now has templates for both so that should make everyone's choice easier.
He is a genuine bloke who knows his stuff and I now can't wait to get mine. I'll also get some low backs done when I can afford it. Be careful to order the right grain from him though as he will do either type as long as he knows what your after.

Picked my sets of these covers today and very happy with them. Apparently Benny you had two different types of seats which is why the second looks different and one had the paper over the headrest while the other didn't. Would also suggest that before fitting you use the home steamer to raise the foam to original as this is meant to make it plush again. Will fit mine and show the results. The two types of seat are definitely different so make sure if you order you state which type you have and which grain style you want for a perfect result.
