ford capri leaf spring front eye bush
hi noticed my front eye bush was stuffed and worse was bolt was seized in the sleeve of the bush got the bolt out had to cut it out with reciprical saw so now i got them to remove the bush but i think they might have removed the sleeve as well as the replacement bush is now to small to fit inside the eye , its 48mm OD while the spring eye is 52 mm ID the 48 mm replacement bush has a steel casing outside of it , i see polyurthane bushes also that come in two halfs with a sleeve my question is do i need to get a sleeve for the 48mm one to fit or does the polyurthane one sit in the eye itself with no outer steel casing or sleeve is the poly one 52 mm just seeing if anybody has done a rear eye bush that might know thanks

Apparently (I'm told) the V6 Rear spring front eyes are larger than the 4 cyls. The V6 springs also have more leaves than 4 cyl. Over to the Capri gurus out there ...... JRGTV6, Whooligan, CosworthFreak ?

i know there are two different ones .. the bush they removed looks as if it had a outside sleeve on it moulded to the rubber they destroyed it that much its hard to tell the replacement ones i brought have also a outside sleeve on it and are 48mm od the id of the eye is 52mm i also see there are push in bushes as well with no outside metal sleeve moulded to them i cant see any od on the polyurthane ones anywhere to tell if they are the replacement ones at 52 mm or if its the 48 mm ones this capri is starting to give me the ****s now

Good one!...........the original Rubber Bush is best all round by a country mile. Urethane for ANY car in ANY position is ONLY for racing/rallying, unless you don't mind a HARSH, NOISY, SQUARKY ride, and needs replacing almost as often as spark plugs !

bit hard to tell as they really butchered the old one , but i did get it at 52mm OD x 65 wide 11mm ID inside sleeve the one bolt goes thru,, and spring eye is at 52 ID its hard to tell as mentioned they butchered it badly if there was a sleeve that is pressed on to the bush .. the replacement one i have is 48.40 OD . spring eye bolt sleeve is 11mm ID spring eye is 52mm ID width is 65mm thats the only one i could find as a replacement even the bloke at yesterford said the poly bush needs a outside sleeve as well to bring it to 52mm OD the one below is the same type i brought at 48mm and the bloke from yesterford said they get sleeves made up that you can buy in a kit with the bush or just the sleeve on its own not sure what the mackay one is as i couldnt see any specs on it http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Whiteline-Rear-Leaf-Spring-Front-Eye-Bush-W71386-fits-Ford-CAPRI-1969-1974-/162297940005?hash=item25c9b60825:g:B7sAAOSwYIxX~Yibthis type you still need a sleeve to press over the bush as its only 48mm OD to bring it up to 52mm OD to match spring eye yesterford ones - Front Eye (Spring Eye I.D. 48 mm) $65 + you need the sleeve to press over it cannot see price of the sleeve they make .. or Rear Spring - Front Eye (Spring Eye I.D. 52 mm $120 that one is in kit form not sure if outer sleeve is already pressed on or you do it yourself hope that helps others cheers

Thanks a million Rod..................all very good and helpful info. You'd think that MRT seller of Whiteline would get heaps of negative feedback from V6 owners as their 48mm bushes will be too small for V6 52mm springs ! Cheers

I think 4 leaf are V6 (rare), 3 leaf 4cyl, single leaf Mk2 or Mk3 originally (or aftermarket).

My V6 has 4 leaves that look original................the former owner wanted more stiffness so he added an "over-ride" booster leaf as they did back then to save pulling everything out to add another leaf!.........this was mainly done for towing vans and/or heavy bootloads with 4 passengers as regular use, even tho mine has no sign of ever having been fitted with a towbar. I find the suspension very tight and seems to keep the V6 in good control..............became suspiscious so I disconnected the shockers to make sure they weren't seized and giving me false impressions; but no, they were fine! One of my cars came with a Booster spring set. This was clamped under the ordinary leaf spring with square-shaped U bolts. Tight is right. I found it far too tight, and deadly in the wet. Better once removed.
