parcel shelf retainer bracket question

hey boys tried to look in the workshop books i have..  cant work out if the steel bracket for the parcel shelf sits outside the trim or under the roof trim ..its the steel bracket that holds the parcel shelf in place ... i took them off before paint but not sure if the trim sits over it or or the bracket sits over the trim
 
wonder if any you boys might know ..

    All mine sit outside. So you can see the bracket.
