They look well made German Hella................cant say I've ever seen that exact one here in Oz, but there must be some around as it's a semi SB and not throw away fully SB..............unftntly all these parts are getting rarer by the day; a good reason to frequent as many swapmeets as possible, lest the un-knowing include them in their next rubbish tip trip.......perish the thought!

i brought some of them autopal headlights ,

think ill be returning  them compared to the hella one above they seem bit dull , the hella ones stick out of the chrome bezel just right  the autopal doesnt  just doesnt look right to me ,
the autopal  ones width from centre of glass are 30mm the hella are 40mm and sit perfect....
    the autopal seem short

i went past the small ford wreckers and found 2 exact hella lenses got them for free as well as the back of them were rusted out badly but hey i only wanted the lenses

i'll take out one of the autopal glass lenses and swap them with the hella lens

If a rusty second hand one comes up you unpick the lense from the backing and re-attach it to a new one. I've done this with genuine lenses on a square headlight Escort. Its a bit of a chore, you need to cut away and disregard the old backing and break the lense on the new unit but it is do-able if you want that factory look... Don't just think Capri either, chances are they'll be used on another model, search for some aftermarket ones and see if they list any other applications, then hunt for the hella's from there...
    Cheers Drew

I saw a build thread on turbosport where a guy separated the glass and had the back rechromed.  Looked mint afterward.

well i went to seperate the lenses of the autopal came of easy  only to find out the chrome inside of them is not that great ,  might be chinese chrome by the look of them..  the hella chrome was pretty good and way better than the new autopal chrome by a mile ..  so i took both lenses of the auto pal ones and sikaflexed the hella ones on there they pretty much fit with a little tweaking of the edges ..
i use them till i can find a genuine hella unit .... but going of the lenses by themselves the autopal are 10mm shorter in width 30mm ..hella ones are 40mm width and line up perfect with the blinker lens

Its whatever floats your boat, and i like an original looking car but i also like making small performance mods and the capri responds so well to this. So whenever i make some mod i am careful to save the original parts.
A new set of hella h4 were among the first mods i did back in 1976. A big improvement then but nowadays its considered pretty ordinary. The optional driving lights also improve the situation but only marginaly. Anyway, good enough to keep you out of trouble.

I forgot to mention, lights are only as good as the power supply and in the case of the capri a direct live feed and relays are essential for bright lights and if you want to avoid overheating the original wiring and switches.

Mod what you can while your the owner driver. It's not about anyone else until you sell it. My Perana will get power steering. Not original but very driveable and if I sell it someone can return it to stock if they need too. Are the new ones you bought the autopal ones the same as your one you first posted. Or is it possible you ordered the wrong ones. And as for the chromeing you can get better globes nowadays so it might not matter so much.
