Thanks a mil' for all your "Pearls of Wisdom" Guys............no such thing as "too much info" when it comes to cars....... I lap it all up like the other "favourite" most girl-lovers do!
Can't wait to see how she runs with the 80 weight oil Ron, together with well-adjusted valves as I haven't checked them since re-installing the re-built engine i finally finished several months ago. There wasn't much incentive as it just drives like a V12 on Eastlink Freeway test to "SNL"at BP Servo on Sat 17.12.16. It's all true what they laud about the famous Essex V6; I was very impressed with its engineered design when I had it in pieces last year during the overhaul. I wonder if it was German borne ? I've seen enough poor English engineering in my lifetime to hesitate when I first considered my Capri 4 years ago! Wasn't helped from years of working on clients' Morris Nomads, Morris Cooper S's, Leyland Marina 4 &6 and P76 V8's, etc. Cannot recall any nightmares from all the Fords like Prefect 100E or Wolseley 15/60 I worked on and still own.
One item which seems to stick in my mind with the Essex design is the Valve Design and V stem oil seals. My old valves had their fair share of wear and the V stem oil seals may as well not have been there as they were all cracked and very loose held in place solely by gravity!
Yet the Essex did not burn any undue amounts of any oil at any speed, as per spec ! Not many engine designs could claim this asset !
So with in spec VS Clearances and new seals, I can look forward to decades of zero oil consumption, esp as I believe new oil and filter is mandatory and dirt cheap insurance EVERY 5,000kms. Even cheaper now as basic Min Oils 20/50 GTX from Castrol are at giveaway prices as the new cars engineers go mad with their $10-$30 x litre semi and full synthetic oils. I just purch a 205 L drum of Castrol for $500 inc tax! ......that's less than $2.50 xL !

Happy New Year to all !
