help please re CAPRI V6 GEARBOX

Hi all,
does anyone know if a gasket is standard between Bell Housing and Gearbox on my 1972 V6 4 speed with external side selectors.

Funny thing I noticed: Even without gasket, the 4 "pcd" holes on the Bell Hsg, holding box to bell, are around 0.100" higher than the 5th bolt hole lower-most, that also holds box to bell................wtf?
This "distortion maker" can't be designed for real? I reckon a fibre washer is meant to go there to avoid oil leak. So if a gasket is meant to go around the other 4 box-to-bell bolts, this fibre washer for Hole 5 would need to be thicker than 0.100"...........................anybody know facts please ?

The next to useless Genuine Shop manual hasn't a single word or picture re all above !!!!!!
.......just like it DOES NOT give "end float" specs of Primary Input Shaft/Gear, and not even a picture of throwout bearing, or Throwout Lever, or specs re these items and relationship to Bell Hsg.........."most un-nerving Watson!"

Also, since book says clearance must exist at Clutch cable to avoid Thrust always resting up against Pressure plate diaphragm, is a return spring meant to hold Throwout Lever back and also act as anti-rattle device ?

Does a clip exist at end of Throwout Lever where it rests/pivots on Bell Hsg, or nothing ?

...........cheers for any help
Bernie

I think the main reason a gasket is used front and rear of the gearbox is to stop oil from seeping out around the layshaft holes. What i can say with confidence is that every bolt that goes thru the maincase large and small needs a thread sealer or it will leak. If not using a gasket between the bell and the box then the very least it needs is a smear of sealer over the end of the layshaft.
Re the clutch arm yes it needs to be set up with clearance or the throw out bearing will wear out. And yes if set up this way the arm will clatter at speed but if using the original rubber clutch boot this controls the clatter. (v6 clutch boots are available from peter m on this forum i think) I have one of his boots and they are beautiful to behold  (i must get out more ha ha). Cheers,...ron.

    Thanks a mil' Ron,
Must give PeterM a call for a Clutch arm Boot as my old one is pretty knackered.
.....yes, we must all get out more ! ..........in Melbourne near Scoresby, we have a HUGE "BP" on our Eastlink Freeway that allows its premises to be host to "Saturday Night Live" where anyone with any sort of collectable/show/special/old/new vehicle can show up from 5pm to "stumps" as it's a 24 hour Servo of some 10 acres, and it's 100% free! ... My wife and I drove there tonight in our Wild Plum GTV6 Capri from Mornington Peninsula (round trip of 75 kms) and the Capri flew like a bird !
Unftntly my synchro rings have seen better days, and I have to decide whether to reco the old Capri Box or find a Dellow Conversion plate to fit a T5 out of an old XF I once owned.
I saw in horror some of the prices for new bits for the Capri Box, but I'll keep looking before I give up on the Capri Box as I really want to keep it original.
    Cheers
    Bernie
