Bonnet latches

Hi having an issue with my bonnet latch. It's on a 8/71 Capri with forward to back latch. It's got a visible spring but now for some reason the spring just pops out which can allow the bonnet to fly up. Thankfully it's got the twist bonnet locks. All my others here have a different setup and 2 are from the same year. Hopefully someone can help. It's the white one giving me the problems but the yellow one is no better.

Check that the spring is returning to the closed position after opening it with the bonnet cable, spring may need lubricating or cable may be too tight. Otherwise check the bonnet spear, my Cortina was doing the same thing, the spear is a little worn and will only work in one position.

The little metal keeper that bolts over the end of the spring is not there. This holds the spring in place.

Wiggy I had the same problem recently when I fitted the GT bonnet. I found it would spring up with very little pressure underneath. Most of the drama for me centred around the bonnet not being aligned correctly, and the latch wasn't centred. I also adjusted the large nut under the bonnet that holds the pin on, which changes the spring pressure and how far down it positions.

Ron do you have a pic or anyone else of the metal keeper. What happens is the end of the spring pops out of the slam panel rendering the spring useless. You just push it back in and it works but any driving and it just pops out again.

Thanks Ron, perfect now where can I get one from. Or two as the yellow one is missing the same thing.

Looks just like an Escort one, so hopefully won't be too hard to come by.

Surprising this clip doesn't show up in my manuals. I've got no description of how the two mechanisms work. You would think bonnet fly up would be critical. And still can't find a parts manual.
