whats your car worth

hey boys after been asked many times on what i think my gt v6 matching number car is worth , id thought i would put up a post and see what others think there capris are worth ...

for me and this is my opinion ..

i put heaps of hrs into rust repairs , parts , panels , looking for parts , trim , paint body work engine work  etc etc

i think the average capri will cost anybody around the 35 - 40k and could easy hit the 50k mark + if your getting all your work done from outside source panel shops etc ... just to rebuild in back to immacualte factory condition

i know from the quotes i got before i decided to do it myself were a joke i got quoted  10 -30 k to do just the bodywork and paint and thats after i had repaired and replaced 3/4 of the panels .. anything i found that had more than 2mm of bog i replaced the whole panel as i just cant stand bog

thats why theres no way i would sell mine for less than 35 k

what you fellow capri owner's think

35 is about right for a thoroughly sorted car.

I paid $30,000 for my v6 auto with full rotisserie repair from a panel beater. The work on the car was immaculate, but the trims and dash are not standard but in my opinion better than original excluding the dash fascia. As you will always be told it's worth what someone on the day is prepared to pay. You don't or can't build these cars as an investment. We do it for the love, the love of the Capri. When you choose to separate its like a marriage gone wrong and you take what ever your left with. My cars are to built so they are never for sale. Call it what you will but the Capri is the only car I've ever loved. I'll sell them over my dead body and therefore they are priceless. My 2c

Some seem to go for more than they'd be worth, like this one (if it did actually sell that is):

    https://www.australianmus...ord-capri-gt-3000.html

I'd be wanting a pretty immaculate car for that money, and know of a much better one going for less.

My Mk1 GT V6 manual is one of only eleven exclusive Delete Models that were the last eleven ever made in Australia in 1972.
Even with body paint & interior still original but Power-plant running like new, I wouldn't consider selling for a cent under $45k, even if I wanted to................apart from the fact that I always fall in love with every car I've ever permanently owned and can't bring myself to part with any of them, with the exception of one about 25 years ago. It was my 1968 HK Holden Panel Van modified to Monaro fit-out I sold, and I'm still regretting selling her. Sold because of a little rust in "rails", but at least I got good money.

Glad I listened to my parents to be financially positive and "live within your means", which so many DO NOT these days, and wonder why they're up **** creek.  Other than the obvious, you're never forced to sell your collectibles for the sake of money.

I estimate the Ford Factory closure will have further increased upside to all Ford Australia MUSCLE cars value, and more again if any are Limited Edition like "John Goss XB" or "Alan Moffat Cobra XC", and "V6 manual Capris"..............if kept in ORIGINAL CONDITION.

Fully modified models will still pull good money for track work, but their market will always be smaller, as more and more Car Clubs are refusing RED PLATES for non-original heavily modified cars

I picked up this original yellow V6 GXL for $13500 the other day - very happy - obviously has all of the later good gear - given that price -  its hard to know what they're really worth (have a set of rebels for it - those mags look clunky)

Ha ha - AUD - yes very clean. Driving the blue one I have is a very different experience to this one. I've put the 2.8i swaybar, koni's, uprated springs and factory power steering etc in the blue one - it's so much more stable on the road. Tracks really well. This one is v 1970's to drive, very butch! (makes a big difference on a long trip). (This one does have some real bite though)

Dreaming. Would personally not pay more than $18,000 for your capri and even that would be a massive stretch as it would require a full restoration to be worth $40,000.

Going rate for nicely presented v6 GT's is still between $25,000 to $33,000ish with immaculate examples pushing mid to high 30's.

    Hey v8gt,

you mussana read the part where I said......."".....not a cent under $45k, EVEN IF I WANTED TO....""......

(which I never would in the forseable future)

I love her so much I wouldn't sell her for $45K even if someone was "richer than Bill Gates" and wanted my GTV6.

So in a way ur right........I am dreaming that I'm one lucky guy to be driving a rare Mk1 165HP GT V6, plus 2 more

Ford V8 Muscle Cars till the day I'm too old to drive, which I dream will be a hundred years away !!!

This is the classic question that I have been asked so many times that it's not funny! My reply is always your car, whatever it may be, is worth whatever the buyer is willing to pay, assuming that you actually want to sell it in the first place. You can throw thousands at a Capri, but in my humble opinion you shouldn't pay any more than mid-$30k's for a pristine unit, as you never know what's underneath!

Yes exactly Foxy Capri !  ..........people will pay according to how bad they want it and how rare it is..............and then you get millionaires, or very wealthy, or sugar daddies, willing to outbid or GUZUMP everyone else and make outrageously high $ propositions to blow the competition away because they can afford it.

Who would ever think a guy would pay $5,500.oo for a Brand new OS still in box XB GT Radiator Grille ! ....... and some other guy asked me to remove a HK Monaro Wheel arch mould(new o/s) from ebay and came along with $1200.oo cash for what was originally $15.65 ! ............year in & year out I see people paying "drug money" for exclusive one-off items we'll never see again. He drove his 2nd car, a magnificent as-new genuine SLR5000 from SA to Melb to pick it up !
I approached a few Plastic Manufacturers, big and small, thinking I could reproduce the XB GT Grille from the new one by the dozen or even hundreds...............$30,000.oo was the cheapest starting price just to make the "dies" for any amount from one upwards ! ..........and then without considering fees Ford would want as "royalties" per unit !
Too risky: how many could I possibly sell , and at what price ?

If you have something super-rare, and one only, why sell it dirt cheap and have "seller's remorse" when there's millionaires/very rich/sugar daddies  out there willing to pay drug money ? .......unless you're very rich and dont need the money I guess.

One dose of "seller's remorse" was enough for me; I still pine after my HK Panel Van/Monaro 20 yrs ago

as much as i love my capri i also love to bring old cars back to life enjoy them for a while then move them on and build another project ..

how about these examples of capri prices

I paid, by my estimations, $5000 over the odds recently for a capri I really wanted.  As its one I wont sell on, I just sucked it up and looked long term.

Selling cars, its a Want to sell versus Need to sell situation for people.  The GXL above is no doubt worth more than the purchase price, but, most likely the seller needed cash right now versus waiting for offers and dealing with the open market (tyre kickers as they were referred to elsewhere above).

I reckon the 1969 1600 gt's will creep up in price - v6's get done up but those 69's with the factory black outs etc - u don't see an awful lot of them - and they look ace!
