Quick shifter repairs?

Hi, Just had the nylon ball on my RS2000 shifter collapse, made a mess of shattered nylon to clean up and the gearstick to pop out. Was fun finding gears on the way home. Can the nylon parts be replaced and how does the gearshift come apart? Thanks.

I don't think the originals can be repaired, although I'd be happy to be proven wrong. My ball disintegrated on me too and I ended up buying a quick shifter even though the throw is too short for my liking.

Mine also nearly fell apart a few months ago.
It is possible to repair the shifts.
I removed the insulating rubber holding the shift together so the stick became two pieces.
Then machined an aluminium knuckle to replace the shattered nylon knuckle.
The aluminium knuckle was then shrunk fit in place and the two halves of the stick bonded back together using two part urethane.
There are a few tricks but if you know a mate that is good with a lathe and on the ball it is repairable.

 

I used this on my Escort. Worked well.

You need to check the colour of the plastic ball, the different colour plastic means different thread size.  There is white, green and blur IIRC.  A tip used to be to get one from a P76 Leyland as they were aluminium
